Job PostingHalifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the permanent, full-time position of Manager, Sport & Scheduling in Regional Recreation Services, Parks & Recreation. Applicants are encouraged to self-identify on their electronic application.Reporting to the Director, Regional Recreation Services, the Manager, Sport & Scheduling provides strategic direction and advice to the Parks & Recreation business unit on policy and facility decisions related to sport towards encouraging greater participation in sports and recreation. The Manager oversees the scheduling of all Parks & Recreation assets with the purpose of ensuring equitable access for all users. Parks & Recreation assets currently include: 134 Sport Fields, 168 ball diamonds, 13 recreation centers, 7 all-weather fields, 2 competition tracks, 21 ice surfaces, 4 outdoor pools, 367 sport courts, and over 900 parks.The Manager, Sport & Scheduling is accountable for leading, scheduling, and overseeing the preparation of over 2500 contracts annually to schedule these assets. This position is also responsible for collecting revenue of more than $2.3 million annually, providing advice to staff and colleagues on complex issues affecting both internal and external stakeholders, and playing a pivotal role in communicating and implementing the priorities of Halifax Regional Council.The Manager is responsible to foster and maintain productive relationships with sport organizations, from grassroots to competitive sports, at all levels including national and international levels, and to strengthen engagement and communication between stakeholders. The Manager champions allocations to municipal assets in a fair and equitable manner. The Manager follows a Standard of Fair Play or Long-Term Development model to reduce systemic barriers and support increased participation in sport by diverse communities.The responsibilities of this position are acutely deadline-driven, and the incumbent must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of sports played in the municipality and their requirements for play.Other position requirements include problem-solving to ensure continuity of sport activities when unexpected challenges arise and working with politicians, members of the public, and other key stakeholder groups.For a detailed list of duties and responsibilities, please email jobs@halifax.ca.QualificationsEducation & Experience
