Job Description

Why this role: We are seeking a highly motivated, attentive, and adaptable individual to join our Creditor Practice Team. Our ideal candidate is driven, can successfully manage their workload with multiple competing priorities, and is looking for a rewarding career contributing to the success of one of the firms largest practice areas.*About Creditor Practice*Our Creditor Practice team represents chartered banks and other financial institutions for the collection and recovery of secured and unsecured retail debt. Our team performs collections for a number of financial institutions and credit card providers. We also represent mortgage insurers for whom we are responsible for enforcement and collection on their deficiency judgments.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Request and review title searches and judgment searches for properties in NS, NB, PEI, and NL in accordance with the provincial search procedures;
  • Prepare documentation for the mortgage enforcement process for NB, PEI, NL and NS;
  • Prepare documentation for Special Applications related to the mortgage enforcement process for NB, PEI, NL and NS;
  • Regular communication with lawyers, financial institutions, title searchers, property managers, and appraisers;
  • Review of securing reports and pictures; advise property managers regarding repairs, cleaning, and any possible environmental issues at mortgaged properties in Atlantic Canada;
  • Prepare required documentation for Trustees Deeds for the respective provinces in Atlantic Canada;
  • Prepare detailed calculations, including adjustments;
  • Assist with related property transactions for various financial services clients;
  • Closely manage various deadlines including lawyers, and financial institutions;
  • Update and monitor various on-line systems (highways) daily, including financial institutions on both provincial and inter-provincial levels;
  • Provide file lawyer with status information updates and prepare for and attend regular file review meetings;
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of client/file information within the ProLaw database; and,
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Graduate of a Legal Assistant or Paralegal diploma program with previous legal experience;
  • Previous experience in foreclosure, collections, or real estate transactions is an asset;
  • Exceptional attention to detail and proven organization skills;
  • Strong ability to manage high-volume work and prioritize multiple deadlines;
  • Solid critical thinking, problem-solving, initiative, and professional judgment;
  • Ability to deal directly with clients using superior communication skills;
  • Thrives working independently and following instructions with minimal supervision;
  • Excellent computer skills, specifically Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel with the ability to learn new software quickly; and,
  • A positive team player.
