Job Description

It’s what you’d expect from the most sustainable paints company, which has been inventing the future for more than two centuries.Job PurposeThe purpose of this role is to provide technical support and training on the use and application of company products, services, equipment and documentation in acquiring new business and in maintaining multiple existing customers.Key Accountabilities

  • Generate and maintain accurate records and applications reports of company products. This includes day to day environmental conditions as well as surface preparation and relevant coating application information.
  • Attend scheduled inspections; verify specification and standard adherence perform quality checks of surface preparation, and the application steps in the painting process.
  • Advise customers of products and schemes based on vessel service environments and performance expectations. Proper knowledge industry standards (i.e. SSPC, NACE, ISO, Etc.) and use of inspection equipment for both surface preparation and coating application operations. Proper use of required PPE. May occasionally be required to demonstrate proper use of application equipment (i.e. Single feed airless, Conventional and plural component).
  • When conditions are identified not within company specifications or application guidelines advise the customer and or applicator and their immediate supervisor to acquire resolution. When conditions are not resolved to meet specification document accordingly with exception report.
  • Lifts 100 pounds
  • Monitor customers/applicators in the proper application of coatings and paint systems in accordance with company specifications.
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Knowledge & Work Experience – Paints & Coatings industry, any B2B industry environment, customer / segment profiling, 5 years of work experience in technical services and support.
  • High school graduate (College Degree Preferred)
  • 5 years basic technical/sales experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and or written skills
  • Ability to travel
  • Understands marine industry terminology and practices
  • Knows coating application, techniques and parameters.
  • Ability to apply principles of observation, logical, or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions based on the evidence; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form. Deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Experience in marine vessel M&R and NB
  • Read: Ability to read newspapers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, encyclopedias, safety rules.
  • Write: Ability to prepare business letters, expositions, summaries, and reports, using prescribed format. Must be able to prepare technical reports and maintain proper diaries as well as be able to document time and motion.
  • Speak: Ability to participate in group discussions and debates; to speak extemporaneously on a variety of subjects. Ability to speak coherently, accurately, and precisely.
  • Hear: Ability to detect emergency and safety alarms and increase awareness in high risk areas.
  • Computer literate with the ability to utilize technological tools (i.e. PC, Smart Phone, iPad, etc.) and supporting software systems and iOS apps to effectively and accurately record data and generate technical reports.
  • May have to work around water therefore must have the ability to swim and or learn to swim

  • Ascending, Descending and/or Balancing: (ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms).
  • Balancing – maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, Crouching, or running on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces).
  • Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching and/or Crawling: (Stooping – bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist). (Kneeling – bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee or knees). (Crouching – bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine). (Crawling – moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet). May need to crawl into/out of confined spaces.
  • Reaching, Handling, Fingering, and/or Feeling: (Reaching – extending the hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction). (Handling – seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands (fingering not involved)). (Fingering – picking, pinching, or
  • otherwise working with fingers primarily (rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling). (Feeling – perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, texture by means of receptors in skin, particularly those of finger tips).
  • Seeing: The ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye. The important aspects vision are:
    • Acuity, Far – clarity of vision at 20 feet or more.
    • Acuity, Near – clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.
    • Depth Perception – three-dimensional vision. Ability to judge distance and space relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are.
    • Field of Vision – area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point.
    • Accommodation – adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This item is especially important when doing near-point work at varying distances from eye.
    • Color Vision – ability to identify and distinguish colors.
