Job Description

Accounting ManagerMidland Transport Limited has become a leader in the transportation industry by providing superior quality service to our customers. Our services include Truck Load, Less Than Truck Load, Courier Services, and Third-Party Logistics/ Brokerage which provide the convenience of one-stop shipping.Midland is currently seeking an “Accounting Manager” reporting to the Director of Finance. The Accounting Manager will provide accurate and timely reporting for internal and external users of financial information for Midland Transport by maintaining the integrity of our financial reporting system. He/she will be responsible for the supervision of Finance staff, working with them on achieving department goals & objectives and developing their skills, while demonstrating initiative and serving as an integral senior member of the Finance Team. In addition, the successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with a “can do” attitude, a service orientated mindset and will thrive in a fast paced, dynamic environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and detail.The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Achieved or working towards accounting designation (CA, CMA , CGA or CPA)
  • Years of Experience Required: 8-10+ years relevant work experience
  • IT Skills (JD Edwards, Advanced MS Office)
  • Drive and motivation to continually ensure integrity and improve financial reporting
  • Inquisitive approach to all elements of the day to day work
  • Mindset of challenging the norm or status quo in the search for optimized and improved ways of doing things
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize, coordinate, and manage multiple activities
  • Strong sense of urgency to complete tasks while maintaining attention to detail
  • Ability to demonstrate effective time management skills and work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision, while delivering timely and accurate financial results
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Key responsibilities:
  • Building, developing and maintaining a highly engaged accounting team.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely weekly, monthly and yearly financial reporting for Midland Transport by maintaining the integrity of the financial reporting system and also ensuring that we have consistent reporting across all divisions.
  • Presentation of financial results and variance analysis to senior leaders/executives
  • Identify, prioritize and execute on continuous improvement initiatives within the accounting department
  • Oversee the Finance staff and ensure their development continues in a manner that will allow them to grow within the company - identifying and discussing strengths, obstacles, and issues, and providing tasks to fuel development.
  • Collaborate with and assist departments and senior leaders to help ensure organizational goals are achieved.
  • Liaison with our internal and external auditors, Corporate Finance at head office and Saint John, JDI tax dept. and various Midland departments by completing their requests on a timely and accurate basis. This includes internal audit compliance reporting, various ad hoc reporting as requested, audit finance.
