Job Description

Mold technicians are responsible for identifying and assessing mold growth in residential, commercial, industrial, or other settings. They commonly work with a team of other professionals to identify the source of mold growth and determine how best to remove it from the affected area.Mold Technician Job DutiesMold technicians have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:

  • Performing hands-on work such as collecting samples, measuring humidity levels, and using microscopes to identify mold types
  • Applying antimicrobial agents to surfaces or materials that may be contaminated with mold
  • Conducting tests to determine the type of mold present and its concentration in the air or on surfaces
  • Preparing reports detailing findings from inspections to help determine the source of mold growth and the extent of any damage it may have caused
  • Collecting samples of dust or other materials from suspected mold growth areas for laboratory analysis
  • Training facility employees on the risks of exposure to mold and how to prevent it from forming in the workplace
  • Conducting inspections of buildings for signs of mold growth in order to identify potential problems and make recommendations for remediation
Mold Technician Job RequirementsEducation: A high school diploma or GED certificate is usually required to become a mold technician. Some mold technicians choose to pursue a two-year associate degree in microbiology or a related field. These programs include coursework in biology, chemistry and microbiology.Training & Experience: The candidates are required to have the proper certifications (AMRT / Asbestos Abatement) before they begin working in the role of a mold technician.Must have a valid Drivers LicenseBilingual (French & English) is an assetMold Technician SkillsMold technicians need the following skills in order to be successful:Communication skills: Communication skills are necessary for mold technicians to have, as they often work with other technicians and engineers to solve problems and complete projects. Effective communication skills can help mold technicians explain technical information to non-technical individuals and vice versa.Attention to detail: Mold technicians must have excellent attention to detail to ensure they correctly identify mold and accurately record its location. Attention to detail can also help mold technicians identify the source of mold and determine the best course of action to remove it.Problem-solving skills: Mold technicians use their problem-solving skills to identify and address issues related to mold growth. They may use their problem-solving skills to find solutions to challenges that arise during the testing process, such as when a sample doesn’t produce the results they expected.Mechanical aptitude: Mechanical aptitude is the ability to understand and use mechanical systems. Mold technicians use their aptitude to understand and repair complex machinery. This includes understanding how different parts of machinery work together and how to repair them.Adaptability: Mold technicians often work in fast-paced environments and with tight deadlines. They must be able to adapt to changing circumstances and adjust their work accordingly.
