Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre is an acute care hospital with a busy emergency department as well as acute care, day surgeries, cancer centre, restorative care, palliative and long-term care departments providing service for the Community and surrounding area. As a successful candidate, you will have the opportunity to work both independently and as a member of our team where you are responsible for performing all aspects within the scope of practice of an MLA including all specimen procurement and blood collection procedures as well as cardiology and urinalysis including microscopic analysis. With a customer service focused approach, you build productive and respectful customer relations and take responsibility for customer satisfaction. You will be responsible for monitoring the collecting, analyzing, and reporting of biological specimens, performing ECGs and Holter monitors. You have an ability to encourage others, building positive, respectful and collaborative working relationships. Relocation assistance may be available with a Return of Service Agreement. Description: As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.Classification: Laboratory Assistant I Union: HSAA FAC PROF/TECH Unit and Program: Laboratory Primary Location: Drayton Valley Hospital Location Details: As Per Location Multi-Site: Not Applicable FTE: 0.80 Posting End Date: 27-DEC-2023 Temporary Employee Class: Temp P/T Benefits Date Available: 06-JAN-2024 Temporary End Date: 27-OCT-2025 Hours per Shift: 7.75 Length of Shift in weeks: 10 Shifts per cycle: 40 Shift Pattern: Days, Weekends Days Off: As Per Rotation Minimum Salary: $23.72 Maximum Salary: $29.56 Vehicle Requirement: Driver #39;s License, Vehicle RequiredRequired Qualifications: Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent. Additional Required Qualifications: Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant training program including a microscopic urinalysis component. Equivalencies may be considered. Cardiology training and experience including ECG’s and Holter Monitors. All blood collection procedures including venipuncture, micro-punctures, blood culture collection as well as collections on all patient ages including newborns, pediatrics and geriatrics. Recent experience performing macroscopic and microscopic urinalysis testing. Preferred Qualifications: 2 years recent experience working as a Medical Laboratory Assistant. Recent experience with MUSE and Cardioday applications. Current registration with CSMLS. Experience using Epic/Connect care.
