Job Description

Choices Association Inc. seeks a seasoned leader to join its volunteer Board of Directors. Choices is a not-for-profit organization that support and assist people with developmental disabilities to pursue opportunities to actively participate in their community. Choices grew from a parent’s meeting of students attending Glenwood School in Ancaster concerned for the lack of services for people with developmental disabilities in Wentworth County. What began as a life skills day program for a few individuals has grown to a wide range of community participation programs and residential support services for individuals with developmental disabilities across Hamilton and Flamborough regionThe Board is a diverse group of leaders with various complementary skill sets. To further enhance its collective skillsets, the Board is looking for a member with a minimum of 2 years experience working on or with the Board of Directors. We are looking for individuals who can bring the following experience:

  • Human Resources
  • Business development
  • Strategic Planning
  • Healthamp; Safety with a focus on Workplace Wellbeing
  • Knowledge of Governance and Funding Models for Not-for-Profit Organizations
  • Current or past experience in developmental sectors or mental health, including community development and healthcare.
The Board of Directors’ Responsibilities:
  • Determining the mission and purpose of the organization.
  • Overseeing the selection, and performance of the CEO.
  • Ensuring the strategic planning process is thorough and complete, as well as management #39;s oversight of its implementation.
  • Ensuring strong fiduciary oversight, risk mitigation, financial management, and growth strategies.
  • Enhancing Choices Association #39;s public image.
  • Assessing the Board #39;s performance as the governing body of Choices Association Inc.
  • Serve as an active advocate and ambassador for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing financial resources and partnerships necessary for Choices to advance its mission.
  • Knowledge of the developmental sector, and leverage personal connections and networks to develop collective action to achieve our mission.
  • To abide by the by-laws, code of conduct, and other policies that apply to the Board
  • Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings.
