Staff Accountant and Payroll Administrator for Plasser CanadaPlasser Canada Inc. is a world-class manufacturer of Railway Track Maintenance Equipment, and is actively engaged in all sectors of research, design, production, marketing and customer service to provide Plasser know-how and standard of quality for our customers.1051 Kapelus Dr, Unit 17, West Saint Paul, Manitoba R4A 5A4, CASummaryReporting to the Operations Manager, the Staff Accountant/Payroll Administrator is responsible for preparing and processing a bi-weekly payroll, accounts receivable/ payable and new hire processing. DescriptionReporting to the Operations Manager, the Staff Accountant/Payroll Administrator is responsible for preparing and processing a bi-weekly payroll, accounts receivable/ payable and new hire processing. Remuneration commensurate to relevant skills and experience.Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and processes bi-weekly, semi-monthly and monthly payroll for all employees (approximately 30 employees);
  • Track expenses and process expense reports.
  • Prepares remittances of all applicable employment-related taxes paid to government agencies (CPP, EI, payroll taxes, EHT, etc.) and payments to insurance companies for group benefits.
  • Manages payroll year-end; processes and files year-end reports (T4/T4A, etc.).
  • Ensures various tax tables are updated when changes are required.
  • Responsible for AR function including preparation of invoices for billing, processing cash receipts and follow-up of outstanding amounts.
  • Collecting, tracking and remitting sales tax to the CRA / QC / MB.
  • Responsible for monthly purchases reconciliations.
  • Responsible for quarterly reporting and yearly budget with support from Plasser American.
  • Enter and reconcile journal and general ledger entries and reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
  • Use Quickbooks software to enter information into company files and databases, ensuring that all financial records are complete and accurate.
  • Prepare and ensure timely processing of electronic transfers, checks and payment runs.
  • Organize and maintain Human Resources records including time and vacation.
  • Maintain Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • For new applicants / hires: process background checks, drug screens, ensure required documents are signed.
Education and Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of payroll administration and AR/AP experience.
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Accounting, Payroll or Human Resources.
  • Thorough knowledge of Manitoba and Federal payroll legislation and applicable tax laws.
  • Experience with sales tax.
  • Familiar with Concur to track and report expenses.
  • Good general accounting skills plus in-depth experience in processing payroll.
Skills:
  • Highly experienced and knowledgeable working with accounting applications (e.g. Intuit – Quickbooks)
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), fast and accurate keyboarding skills, and basic math/accounting.
  • Attention to detail is essential.
  • Highly organized with the ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Service-oriented with diplomatic phone manner for responding to member inquiries and diligent problem investigation and follow-up.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and interact regularly with all departments.
