Job Description

RoleReporting to the Equipment Coordinator, the role of a Shop Hand is to maintain and manage the warehouse and it #39;s respective operations. The Shop Hand is responsible for receiving and organizing shipments, assisting Project Managers and Purchasers in locating materials for specific jobs. Additionally, the Shop Hand ensures that materials are safely stored and tracked during loading and unloading from the shelves. This position also entails taking on the responsibility of shop organization and yard maintenance, including snow removal and basic cleaning.Responsibilities

  • Receive shipments and match them with a ViewPoint Purchase Order number on the packing slip.
  • Receive and update backordered quantities in ViewPoint, if required.
  • Load and unload incoming and outgoing materials from the warehouse.
  • Plan and coordinate shipments with the Administrative Assistant and 3rd party logistics companies.
  • Assist the Fleet Manager with inventory control and planning.
  • Record shortages and reject damaged goods.
  • Respond to shipping/receiving inquiries promptly.
  • Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, and shipping orders to route materials.
  • Operate forklifts within the shop, ensuring strict adherence to all safety and load limitations.
  • Utilize Material Handling Equipment (e.g., dollies, forklifts, hand trucks, jacks, pallet trucks, wrapping machinery).
  • Maintain daily cleanliness and safety standards in the warehouse.
  • Clean fleet units when needed.
  • Handle material pick-up and delivery with a pick-up truck and trailer.
  • Weekly inspections of building/facilities for any leaks, repairs, and other damage, working with Fleet Manager to schedule in any maintenance.
  • Seasonal facilities maintenance of building and yard (Lawn landscaping, parking lot sweeping, snow removal, etc.)
Requirements
  • At least 1 – 2 years’ experience working in a warehouse setting would be an asset
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required
  • Ability to safely drive a truck and trailer.
  • Strong understanding of computer programs such as Microsoft Suite, Teams, and Viewpoint would be considered an asset.
  • Good customer service and time management skills
  • Knowledge of logistics, including carriers, shipping policies, and procedures.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift at least 50lbs.
  • Ability to operate a skid steer and forklift, as well as certifications considered a strong asset.
  • Willingness to work extended hours if needed.
  • Experience with hand tools.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
