That’s why we work with an explorer’s heart and a perfectionist’s grit to design, build, and service the world’s most advanced aircraft engines. We do this across a diverse portfolio – including Commercial Engines, Military Engines, Business Aviation, General Aviation, Regional Aviation, and Helicopter Aviation – and as a way of turning possibilities into realities for our customers. This is how we at Pratt & Whitney approach our work, and this is why we are inspired to go beyond. What are our expectationsWork from manufacturing operation sheets, drawings and schedules regarding methods and equipment to use, in order to set up, adjust and operate a variety of conventional or numerically controlled machine-tools such as lathe, grinder, milling machine, electrical discharge machine (EDM), by wire or otherwise, in order to perform a variety of machining operations on engine parts.Make changes to the controls in order to compensate for dimensional deviations of parts and/or machine condition. Perform tests on the first part and make settings, adjustments and alignments necessary for cutting tools, parameters of cutting, feeds, etc., to attain optimal performance and dimensions required.Perform dimensional and visual inspections of parts during the manufacturing process as indicated or required, using different types of precision gauges and inspection jigs and keep appropriate records of various parameters used to establish efficient operations while maintaining statistical process control. Use CMM to assist with required inspection. Review statistics, take decisions regarding operational continuity, discuss the situation with planners and recommend changes to operational parameters in order to meet the specifications.May be required to simultaneously operate several machines located in close proximity. What your day to day will look likeAs part of the job rotation process a Manufacturing Specialist may rotate to non-machining related areas for a period of time. A partial list follows; deburring,tooling/gauging, CMM, final inspection, NDT and encapsulation.Participate in training and share knowledge with teammates on the various equipment and tasks.Able to do heavy manual work including liftingParticipate in continuous improvement activities.Work in a safe manner following all safety procedures with appropriate PPEAbility to work unsupervised as part of a team or as an individual contributor.Utilize both CNC and conventional machining methods to meet the demands of a 24/7 production schedule.Operation of CNC 4-5 axis mills and lathes.Machine setup and operation on a trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings, programmed data and selection of tooling.Ability to interpret engineering drawings and understand basic concepts of GeometricDimensioning and TolerancingCertified to approve quality operations prior to next machining operation and maintain certification level.Participate in the development of new processes, products and reworks regarding the selection of methods and tools.Retrieve items required from stores and vertical storage systems.Perform maintenance routines to ensure, namely, that fluid levels are adequate, filters are clean and the general condition of the machine complies with the checklist. Keep equipment and work station clean and in good working condition. The tools you need to be successfulMechanical or Industrial Engineering Technology with a manufacturing elective or termJourneyperson MachinistGraduate of a one-year machining program (apprentice machinist) with a minimum of two (2) years related machining experience.Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) training would be considered an asset. What we offer
