Job Description

The Ministry of Justice and Attorney General provides a fair justice system that upholds the law and protects the rights of all individuals in Saskatchewan; promotes safe and secure communities; and provides legal and justice policy advice to government.The Courts and Community Justice Division has a career opportunity for a highly motivated, results oriented, innovative and team focused individual who has strong leadership capabilities for the position of Local Registrar/Sheriff/ Manager, Provincial Court in Estevan. In this role, you will manage the daily operations of both the Court of King’s Bench and Provincial Court and ensure quality service to its clients and stakeholders.Reporting to the Director, Court of King’s Bench Operations and as a member of an integrated management team, the successful candidate will ensure that all legal and administrative requirements are met in a timely manner.The successful candidate will:Provide oversight and management of the day-to-day operations of a busy court office including administrative, human and financial resources.Act as trial coordinator with respect to matters heard at the Estevan Court of King’s Bench.As the Sheriff and working with the Regional Sheriff Office South, you will oversee the jury management for all jury trials occurring within the Estevan Jury Selection Area and ensure the public has access to the Sheriff Office in Estevan for the purpose of dropping off documents to be forwarded to the appropriate Sheriff’s Office.Perform registry functions including the issuance and/or receipt of court documents and, collecting and accounting for funds and fees received by the courts.Provide information to the public and legal professionals regarding court processes.Ensure staff are knowledgeable and trained in the Rules of Court, legislation, as well as court policy and procedures.Operate, navigate and provide support to employees respecting various computer applications and data management systems.The ideal candidate will have:Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, programs and processes of the court system.Knowledge of human resource management, financial and administration practices, including principles of effective recruitment, conflict resolution, mediation, training and financial controls.Effective leadership and coaching skills.Strong oral and written communication skills.Demonstrated accountability, flexibility and adaptability in order to meet new challenges in a changing environment.Strong judgement and discretion, problem solving and decision making skills.The ability to lead and manage change and strive for continuous improvement.The ability to create and support an environment that enables staff to achieve results.Typically, the experience and knowledge required for this position includes:Knowledge and skills acquired through experience in a court and/or legal environment.Supervision/management experience, within a court setting, legal profession, or related work experience.Relevant undergraduate degree in Human Justice, Criminology, Law, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.As the successful candidate, you must demonstrate good character in order to maintain the integrity of the justice system and the people it serves and ensure confidentiality within and outside the place of work in accordance with your Oath of Office and Court Official Designation.What We Offer:Dynamic and challenging work for talented individuals.A competitive salary.Comprehensive benefits package including pension.Vacation, scheduled days off (SDO) and other types of leave.A collaborative and inclusive work environment.Work/life balance and flexible work arrangements.
