MANITOBA MÉTIS FEDERATIONMÉTIS INCLUSION COORDINATORAugust 29, 2022Posting #22-16-004The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratic Government of the Red River Métis - also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are Canada’s Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Métis Inclusion Coordinator position within our Provincial Education Department located in Flin Flon, MB. The Métis Inclusion Coordinator will work to create opportunities for Métis culture to be acknowledged and celebrated within Grades 8-12 in the Frontier School Division, and together they will provide a full range of supports to Métis students, fostering resilience, cultural pride, and academic success. This position will include travel to various communities and possible school visits within The Pas Region. Due to contribution agreement stipulations, the successful candidate must be a Métis Citizen.Job Duties/Competencies:

  • Facilitate engagement between students, families, and educators to ensure a smooth transition from middle school to Grade 9 and from Grade 12 to post-secondary education and training;
  • Work with Métis students who are in need of additional academic and social support to ensure graduation;
  • Work collaboratively with families and schools/educators to promote a shift from parent involvement to parent engagement and maintain that connection throughout high school;
  • Maintain ongoing communication and collaboration with Métis students and families to address their needs, and to advocate for students and families within schools;
  • Work with the Métis community both in and out of schools to create a strong sense of identity and pride;
  • Develop and deliver activities that promote the celebration of Métis culture;
  • Work with the Indigenous community on campus and the MMF Department of Education to identify existing Métis-specific programming and to identify gaps in services and programming.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Have an MMF Citizenship Card or a letter from the Central Registry Office stating that you are in the process of receiving your citizenship;
  • Grade 12 diploma required, post-secondary education is an asset.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of and demonstrated experience in Métis history and culture;
  • Experience working with Indigenous peoples, Elders and Métis communities is required;
  • Minimum two years working with children and youth in an education setting;
  • Experience writing and presenting a variety of documents to student audiences;
  • Ability to speak French and/or Michif is preferred;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills; and,
  • Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
