Job Description

As a member of the Health Care Team, the Recreation Facilitator/Activity Worker provides activity programming for Elders of longterm care facilities and participants of the Adult Day programs that maintain optimum functioning in their physical, mental, spiritual,and social well-being and enhances their quality of life. The provision of activity programming will be in accordance with ManitobaAssociation of Therapeutic Activity Guidelines and Provincial Recreational standards.The incumbent must fulfill the requirements of the Criminal Records/ Vulnerable Person, Child Abuse Registry Check and AdultAbuse Registry Check, and adhere to all Northern Health Region (NHR) policies and procedures.QUALIFICATIONS• Grade 12 education or equivalent

  • Graduate of a Recognized Recreation Program
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate
  • Serve it Better Certificate
  • PIECES, or willingness to take at next available opportunity
  • Safe moving and lifting or willingness to take at next opportunity
  • Valid Manitoba Class V driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and willingness to travel the region year round
  • Working knowledge of Windows based programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and Internet
  • Good understanding of Elders/ Psychogeriatrics
  • Interest in Gerontology
  • Knowledge and understanding of Resident Bill of Right
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to speak Cree an asset
  • Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to work independently
  • Creativity in recreational program development
  • Experience in working with the elderly and cognitively impaired elderly
  • Acknowledge of the infinite value of human life, respecting the rights of all individuals to live and die with dignity
  • Ability to prioritize tasks
  • Satisfactory employment record required
