Job Description

DescriptionThe Opportunity:We have an opening for a Mechanical Maintenance Technician looking to demonstrate and develop a highly valuable skill set. This is an incredible opportunity where you will be responsible for the troubleshooting, cleaning, inspection, and overhaul of equipment during scheduled maintenance as well as emergency break in work to ensure the facility operates in a safe and professional manner. Your strong knowledge and experience in troubleshooting mechanical equipment will be an asset as you provide assistance to Millwrights in the field.

  • Job Location: Fort McMurray, Alberta - Horizon Oil Sands site
  • Shift schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off, 12hrs/shift
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Accountabilities:
  • Perform hands on work based on the criticality and availability of equipment
  • Coordinate activities with the mechanical maintenance contractor, ensuring that all relevant procedures are followed
  • Provide troubleshooting assistance to Millwrights in the field, perform quality checks on the work performed by contractors and identify recurring problems and document them in order to provide an engineered solution
  • Take proactive measures to address improvement opportunities through the “Management of Change” system
  • Ensure that work is adequately documented in the work order system (Maximo) and provide a daily report of relevant activities
  • Work in cooperation with the shop team lead to ensure compliance to all internal procedures, follow standard safety procedures, correct safety and environmental hazards and report them
What you Bring to the Role:
  • Typically 2+ years’ experience in the oil sands and/or oil and gas plants with Journeyman Red Seal Millwright trade certificate
  • Expertise in a variety of mechanical equipment including single and multi-stage pumps, blowers and fans and gear boxes
  • Experience with precision measurement tools
  • Turbine and compressor experience considered an asset
