Closing Date: July 26, 2023 at 4:00 PMMI #39;KMAQ WOLASTOQEY CENTREThe Mi #39;kmaq-Wolastoqey Centre (MWC) is located on Wolastoqiyik traditional territory, at the University of New Brunswick. MWC is an autonomous academic unit within the Faculty of Education that offers a variety of educational programs, provides supportive services to Indigenous students, and provides educational opportunities to everyone who wants to learn about Wabanaki histories, cultures, contributions, and treaty rights through principles of respect, sharing, harmony, acceptance, and unity.WHAT WE OFFERFull-time | 1-Year Term | Fredericton | HybridUNB is committed to ensuring employees can maintain a healthy work-life balance.   • Preference will be given to an Indigenous person with strong cultural knowledge and relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations in New Brunswick.
Salary Range: $44,556 - $55,695 per annumYOUR FOCUSReporting to Nikanahtpat (Director) of the Mi #39;kmaq-Wolastoqey Centre and the Director of Experiential Education, the Indigenous Experiential Education Coordinator will help support UNB #39;s Indigenous experiential education programs through community and student outreach, funding allocation, program development, and administrative coordination.
  • Engage in outreach with Indigenous communities and organizations such as the Three Nations Education Group Inc., First Nations Education Initiatives Inc., Union of NB Indians, and NB Aboriginal People #39;s Council in New Brunswick to promote the Future Wabanaki initiative.
  • Collaborate with Indigenous students at UNB to create and support experiential learning opportunities that are aligned with the student #39;s academic pathways, cultural background, and professional goals.
  • Collaborate with UNB internal stakeholders to develop and support Indigenous experiential education initiatives.
  • Collaborate to create processes and process documents to support the Future Wabanaki initiative.
  • Support the provincial Future Wabanaki working group to promote the Future Wabanaki initiative in New Brunswick.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Office of Experiential Education to support experiential education programming for Indigenous students at UNB and align Future Wabanaki and FutureNB processes.
  • Organize student workshops, conferences, and/or events to promote employer-indigenous connections.
  • Other administrative tasks as required.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • A university degree in Education, Indigenous Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience with relationship building with Indigenous students and communities.
  • Experience writing reports for academic, government, and/or public audiences.

  • Knowledge of client-centred and holistic approaches with Indigenous clients is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal presentation skills.
  • Strong time management and mediation skills.
  • Ability to address a variety of audiences tact and diplomacy.
