BGC prides itself on offering training and mentoring opportunities to further our employees’ professional growth as well as social and wellness activities that contribute to the connection and wellbeing of our team.We believe in One Team, Excellence, Curiosity, Common Sense and Clarity.The RoleBGC is seeking a geotechnical laboratory technician with a passion to expand their knowledge of geotechnical testing for our advanced soil and rock testing facility in Fredericton, New Brunswick (BGC Engineering | Fredericton, NB (matterport.com)). BGC’s laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility which specializes in strength, compressibility and permeability testing of soil, and strength testing of rock. Our testing equipment includes cyclic dynamic simple shear, servo-controlled fully automated triaxial, and automated oedometer systems. The technician will support engineers with advanced rock laboratory testing and learn foundational rock mechanics.Responsibilities

  • Organize and maintain sample inventory
  • Maintain and operate testing equipment
  • Prepare rock samples for testing
  • Conduct advanced laboratory tests on rock and occasionally soil
  • Prepare laboratory test reports
  • Follow lab procedures for safety and quality
  • Train and mentor laboratory staff and laboratory visitors
Required Education, Experienceamp; Competencies
  • Technical diploma in Civil or Geological Engineering with an interest in geotechnical engineering
  • Skill and practical experience with use of power tools, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical circuits is considered an asset
  • Technical competence and experience with machine operation and repair
  • Experience with materials testing is considered an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills
  • Capable of utilizing basic software for machine operation and data entry
