Job Description

Gift Shop Sales ClerkThe Gift Shop Sales Clerk will take a lead role in the Museum’s retail operations, including gift shop sales and admissions, processing memberships and group tour payments, and product merchandising. The Sales Clerk will operate the cash register and retail software, prepare and maintain cash floats and keep accurate records of all transactions, in addition to assisting in daily maintenance routines and other general operations.The Sales Clerk will also be encouraged to observe shopping trends and patterns and contribute to inventory and merchandising decisions based on frontline experience.Primary Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Greet guests and take telephone calls in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Operate cash register and related retail software.
  • Accept admission payments and process cash and credit card sales.
  • Process discounts and refunds as necessary.
  • Balance end-of-day cash float.
  • Maintain gift shop displays, stock shelves and maintain inventory records.
  • Book tours and lead tour groups of up to 50 people, providing accurate information on exhibits, pointing out interesting features and answering related questions.
  • Monitor visitors to ensure their needs are being met and assist them with directions and information on other local/regional services, events and attractions.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of special events such as the Canada Day booth and Festival of Flight “Glider Toss”.
  • Light cleaning and maintenance duties to ensure proper appearance of displays, washrooms, building and grounds.
  • Occasionally open or close the Museum.
