  • JOB TEXT:Full time permanent position for Speech Language Pathologist. Duties to commence September 6, 2022.Reporting to the Director of Student Services (Region) you will provide speech language services program to support students with communication impairments. As an itinerant SLP you will have a critical role in ensuring student achievement. As part of the Districts Program Team, you will further the goals and objectives of the NL English School District and support improved educational opportunities through professional learning and program support. You will be committed to staff development and the utilization of educational technology.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Knowledge of speech-language pathology theory, intervention strategies and practices;
    • The ability to deliver service to communicatively impaired students in a manner which recognizes and reflects a range of service delivery models;
    • Possession of strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, other professionals and support workers;
    • The ability to work independently and establish priorities for service to several schools in highly demanding situations;
    • Knowledge and a commitment to the consultative, collaborative process in working with school teams, parents and other relevant people.
    • Coordinating their Speech-Language Services with the teams in their assigned schools;
    • Identifying, assessing and evaluating those children suspected of having significant communicative impairment;
    • Planning, developing, providing and/or directing appropriate and effective intervention programs;
    • Providing on-going monitoring of children with communicative disorders through informal and formal assessments, and giving suggestions for management at home and in the classroom;
    • Collaborating with school teams to support language goals in the curriculum (e.g. team teaching, I.E.P. adaptations and modifications);
    • Communicating with parents to discuss their child’s progress and methods of creating an atmosphere conducive to good communication;
    • Acting as supportive personnel and counsel for school teams to better understand the needs of the children who are identified as communicatively impaired;
    • Providing current schedules and caseloads of identified students receiving speech language services to school teams and the Director of Instruction;
    • Performing those recording and reporting tasks necessary to maintain effective communication with all involved in the childs program;
    • Initiating referrals, when necessary, to other district staff, agencies and community professionals in collaboration with the school teams.
    Staff will engage a blended service delivery model encompassing both direct service and virtual services as required.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • A Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology from a recognized university;
    • Certification with the Speech Language Pathology and Audiology of Canada (SAC);
    • Must be registered with the College of Health Professionals of Newfoundland and Labrador.
    • Valid driver’s licence and regular travel with personal vehicle; may require overnight stays.
