Job Description

Area Supervisor:Broad FunctionThis position reports directly to the Project Manager and/or General Manager on supporting and growing the business by coordinating all site construction activities and supervises all field personnel as required to successfully complete the project on schedule and within budget. Ensures all assigned projects are delivered safely, consistently and effectively and are profitably managed and compliant. Supports building the Brock brand by providing world class service quality to all stakeholders.Essential Functions

    • Promote, demonstrate and instill Brock’s Bsafe and Bbest culture in all aspects of the business
    • Develop and builds sales relationships within both Brock and the customer’s organization
    • Coordinate with Asset Management and Regional Operations on planning/scheduling, and determining materials & manpower demands for defined projects
    • Work with Business Development and Estimating to transition the job from sales to operations utilizing the Healthy Start process
    • Responsible for site safety, quality, cost and schedule
    • Assist Project Manager in developing and implementing project Execution Plan, Quality Control Plan, and Site Safety Plan.
    • Own the planning and implementation of a project by executing detailed project plans which include timelines, scheduling, logistics, purchasing and training plans
    • Build strong cross-functional operating partnerships across the organization (as defined in role success profile)
    • Ability to understand the contract and successfully initiate change orders
    • Manage changes to project scope through defined change management process
    • Effectively resolves customer issues / discrepancies
    • Ensure that all appropriate authorizations and approvals are in place and job site is free of hazards and or dangerous conditions. prior to the commencement of any work
    • Assist in quoting and performing preliminary job walks for defined projects
    • Responsible for leveraging opportunities to cross sell Brock’s product and service offerings
    • Maintains communication with Project Manager and Business Development to ensure customers’ needs are met
    • Identify all operations aspects of the job including: labor, equipment, consumables and materials along with any sub-contract requirements
    • Coordinate with Asset Management and Customer on planning/scheduling, and determining materials & manpower demands for defined projects
    • Work with Business Development and Estimating to transition the job from sales to operations utilizing the Healthy Start process
    • Responsible for job cost management and profitability for assigned projects, including daily tracking and reporting for billable and nonbillable activities.
    • Identify appropriate KPIs based on customer and PM requirements and works with project controls to ensure that the site is tracking the proper data and taking corrective action as required.
    • Audit ongoing operations and identifies opportunities for field efficiencies and standardization of methods to improve margins
    • Manage outsourced services within project constraints
    • Follow Brock’s procurement process and manages vendor relationships
    • Manage site supervision and ensures scope, job efficiency and productivity are met
    • Conduct effective performance evaluations and mentors site and supervision and craft employees
    • Identify knowledge gaps and ensures that all site personnel receive appropriate training
    • Determine labor requirements and recruit and hire talented craft personnel within budgeted constraints
    • Ensure all current personnel policies and procedures are implemented and compliant
    • Work closely with Regional HR Manager to resolve all employee issues fairly and equitably
    • Stay current on industry trends and work practices and participates in continuing education opportunities
  • Attend any site meeting where information is exchanged relating to Brock scope work.
    • Don’t wait to be invited to meetings, be proactive and seek out opportunities to become involved
    • All Client/Brock incident reporting policies are met or exceeded
    • Superintendent is responsible to review safety manual stated policies vs. industry or regulatory policies and make recommendations for enhancement to BSL stated policies.
Working Conditions
    • Working conditions include outdoor and indoor field, yard and shop locations.
    • Travelling from site to site (about 60% of the time)
    • Site specific hazardous environments
    • Working indoors in an office environment
    • Utilization of Personal Protective Equipment is necessary.
    • Willingness to work in highly varying schedule as site conditions dictate

    • Works with PM to generate, evaluate, and act on strategic options and opportunities

    • High degree of technical ability such as: read/interpret engineering plans, product knowledge, etc.
    • Ability and willingness to seek out areas for improvement and solve problems
    • Demonstrates courage to address difficult issues
    • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
    • Proven communication and interpersonal skills, including strong leadership skills
    • Strong customer focus on relationship building
    • Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task
    • High energy level, strong sense of ethics, discretion and adherence to process
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools, such as Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Word.
    • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently
    • Comfortable working in a hands-on environment
Education & Experience
    • 10 years of craft supervision experience
    • Advanced craft or project certifications desirable (NACE, NCCER, PMP, PMI, etc.)
    • Knowledge of employment practices (hiring and termination; discipline, attendance, employment regulations, pay practices, etc.)
    • Must have valid driving license and ability to meet the minimum standards to be on the Brock Approved Driver’s List
