Job Description

Electrical Specialist – Full TimeDepartment: Technical ServicesReports To: Manager Technical Services and PlanningAquatera provides high quality, environmentally sustainable utility services and optimized value to customers and shareholders. As an exemplary employer, we look for people who can live our values, are committed to high quality work and great customer service.*Summary*Working closely with the Electrical and Instrumentation Technician, you will provide technical support to operations, maintenance and capital projects with respect to electrical power distribution, electrical maintenance planning, automation, and reliability. The Specialist will lead capital projects that are primarily electrical and instrumentation in scope.*Job Duties*The successful candidate will use their expertise to:

  • Adhere to and apply our safety policies, standards and values in the execution of your work;
  • Manage projects with components of industrial electrical systems ranging from 120V to 5kV systems, with 25kV system experience an asset;
  • Design and implement changes and upgrades to current electrical systems;
  • Review consultant and vendor electrical drawing packages for conformance to Aquatera standards, ease of operability, ease of maintenance and reliability;
  • Apply Aquatera and industry standards (ISA, IEC, CSA, ANSI, NEMA, IEEE, etc.);
  • Apply local electrical codes in project design;
  • Participate in Incident Management (IM), Corrective Actions (CA), Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs), job safety analysis, and Management of Change (MOCs) processes as assigned;
  • Build and support electrical and automation methodologies, standards and guidelines;
  • Build and update existing electrical and controls AutoCAD drawings to reflect current state including the ability to create simple new single line drawings, loop drawings and schematics;
  • Provide support to electrical maintenance and planning procedures;
  • Provide support to operations and maintenance teams on trouble shooting equipment issues, system start-ups, project design, commissioning and start-up.
QualificationsRequired qualifications include: The successful candidate must be legally entitled to work in Canada and have:
  • Five years of relevant experience;
  • A post-secondary education in Electrical systems;
  • A continuous improvement mindset and driven to seek greater knowledge and understanding;
  • Proven ability to sort through data to identify problems and provide solutions to address;
  • A valid Canadian driver’s licence and a clean driving record;
  • Alignment with our values of teamwork, safety, quality and respect;
  • Exhibit curiosity and lifelong learning;
Preference will be for the following:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering;
  • Registered, or is eligible to register, as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or as a Professional Licensee, the Association of Science & Engineering Technology (ASET) Professionals of Alberta;
  • Minimum qualification of CET with ASET in the electrical, instrumentation or controls fields;
  • Demonstrated field experience working with trades, engineers and operations to solve problems;
  • Familiarity of arc flash studies using ETAP software.
Working Conditions:
  • The position is based in our corporate offices or one of our site facilities in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and weekend support being required.
