Job Description

The OpportunityEquipment Operator II:Successful applicant operates and is responsible for two or more of the following: trucks (43,000 G.V.W. and over), street sweeper (under 3 cu. yds.), street flusher, tractor (over 60 SAE net HP), gang mower (30 HP and over), tree spade truck and machine, asphalt roller, and any other similar equipment.Maintenance Worker II:Responsible for the repair, maintenance, installation and removal of the storm sewer system, raking asphalt on the paving crew and other similar duties. The position requires experience and skill in the maintenance, repair, and construction of the storm systems and/or experience in placing and leveling hot mix asphalt concrete pavement and assisting with the maintenance of records. The incumbent will also have a valid Alberta Drivers License (Class III with Air Endorsement).ResponsibilitiesIn winter you will be responsible for the operation of a tandem truck hauling snow and possibly other materials around town. In the summer you will help the Asphalt crew with placing, raking and shoveling asphalt and various other labour work on the crew.You BringThe successful applicant will also have:

  • Valid Alberta Drivers License. (Class III with Air Endorsement)
  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of Tandem Truck, Asphalt roller, Water Truck.
  • Experience in all aspects of Asphalt Placement Program and Snow Removal Operations.
  • Ability to work shifts
Assets related to this position includes:
  • Knowledge of other Transportation Crews duties.
  • Certification in First Aid and WHMIS and Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
  • Basic Computer Skills.
  • High School Diploma or equivalency.
  • Ability to become skilled at operating other equipment as required.
The Transportation Department is a multi-task weather dependent department. The successful candidate may be required to perform other duties as required on a day to day basis. May be required to participate in standby rotation.This position is based on a 40 hour work week. Safety footwear is required. Please note that smoking restrictions are in effect.Applicants selected for interview may be tested in some of the above qualifications and may be requested to bring a current Driver’s Abstract to the interview.The successful candidate may be asked to undergo a physical needs assessment.Hours
  • Winter OP II - 40 hours a week, generally on nightshift between the hours of 22:00 and 06:00.
  • Summer MW II - 40 hours a week, generally on dayshift between the hours of 04:00 and 16:00.
Salary/WageOP II -The classification indicates a pay rate and normal assignment, with other duties assigned as required, and a pay rate as per C.U.P.E.
