Do you have an interest in taking a leadership role in recreation and natural resource service delivery within Provincial Parks and Recreation Areas Do you have a strong desire to provide conflict resolution and visitor management solutions to foster positive and safe recreation experience for Albertans If the answer is yes, then this new position within the Parks Operation Division may be right for you!Reporting directly to the Area Manager, the Parks Recreation and Resource Officer Team Lead will be part of a broader team that ensures that users experience Park sites in a safe and sustainable way.With consideration to the uniqueness and conservation of Alberta’s natural and cultural protected places, this position is responsible for user education and compliance; the planning, coordination, delivery and evaluation of campground/day use operations; outdoor recreation services; visitor safety; natural resource management and various special permit programs within their district/area.This position supervises seasonal and permanent Parks Recreation and Resource Officer staff and volunteers; and works closely with other park teams to provide park users with positive and safe recreation experiences. Duties also include participating in Regional, District and Park specific planning processes, such as annual operational planning, and assisting the Area Manager in oversight of contracted services.QualificationsRequirements:

  • A natural science degree or an applied degree in resource management. (Natural Resources, Natural Science, Recreation Management, Tourism Development or other related programs.)
  • Minimum 4 years of related work experience
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Supervisory and leadership experience
  • Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent
  • Criminal Record Check
Assets:
  • Compliance and/or conflict resolution experience
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety program, policy and legislation
  • Standard First aid with CPR and AED
  • Defensive Driver’s Certificate
  • Knowledge of applicable Provincial and Federal legislation (e.g. Provincial Parks Act)
  • Training and certification in the use of various equipment (i.e. watercraft, OHVs, snowmobiles, 4X4 vehicles, chain saws)
  • Outdoor recreation and or natural resource work experience, including working around water
  • Experience working alone in remote areas
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strategic, project and financial planning and management skills
Equivalency:
  • A related two-year diploma plus 6 years related experience
