We’re looking for an independent contractor to join our Eagle Mountain-Woodfibre Gas Pipeline Project (EGP) team. EGP is 47-kilometre-long pipeline expansion to our existing Vancouver Island natural gas transmission system to deliver natural gas to the Woodfibre LNG facility, requiring planning, supporting construction tasks and commissioning the facilities.The Safety Lead, Tunnel is responsible for the safety program implementation and monitoring of the Tunnel construction that extends from the BC Rail East Portal to the West Portal located at the Woodfibre site. The safety program includes adherence to FortisBC Policies, EGP Health and Safety Management Plan, and the Contractor’s Project Specific Safety Plan. The Safety Lead is a key member of the Tunnel Leadership team, reporting directly to the Construction Manager, and a matrix reporting relationship with the EGP Health and Safety Lead. The Safety Lead, Tunnel will be overseeing safety of construction work activities at Woodfibre LNG site and BC Rail site. The ideal candidate will be located in the Lower Mainland.The successful candidate will be responsible for the following activities:Reviews Prime Contractor Project Specific Safety Plan, Emergency Response Plan and ensures compliance with WorkSafeBC RegulationsSupports EGP Safety Lead in developing Health and Safety Management ProgramsReviews and monitors Prime Contractor Safety Programs to ensure alignment with WorkSafe BC Occupation Health and Safety Regulations and FortisBC requirementsReviews the prime contractor safety personnel’s daily safety inspections, safety observations, and focus inspections and follow-up with corrective actionsConducts safety focuses inspections and safety auditsParticipates in the Prime Contractor Risk Assessment reviews and JHA reviewsParticipates in Prime Contractor toolbox meetings, safety meetings, construction coordination meetingsEnsures adherence to Prime Contractor safety programs including worker’s competency, training program, safety observation program, sub-contractor management program, and other project specific safety programsAssists In reviewing Prime Contractor Incident Investigations and summarize the corrective actions and communicate to the Health and Safety LeadHealth and Safety interface management for Tunnel construction with multi-party Prime Contractor designations including activities specific to the Woodfibre siteSupports EGP Emergency Response Program and alignment of the Contractor’s ERPProvides supervision and direction to Safety Advisor located at the Woodfibre sitePrepares quality daily, weekly, monthly Health and Safety reports for Tunnel component of the Project and communicates to the Construction Manager and EGP Project HS LeadQualificationsUndergraduate degree in safety, engineering, construction management or other related fieldsCRSP, CSP, CHSC or equivalent safety certification15 years of direct experience in industrial safety with demonstrated levels of increased responsibilityKnowledge of WorkSafe BC Regulations and requirementsPreference for Tunnel / underground construction safety experienceAccountabilityAccountable to Tunnel Construction Manager and EGP Project Health and Safety LeadAccountable for ensuring conformance to applicable OH amp;S regulatory, FEI Safety requirements, and EGP Health and Safety Management PlanWhat you need to know This position will be classified as an Independent Contractor and hired through an agency.
