Job Description

Job Title: ControllerLocation: Vancouver, BC (Remote/Hybrid option available)Company: Purely Optimal - A leading ecommerce supplement business, primarily serving the U.S. market Position Overview:Purely Optimal is seeking a dynamic and detail-driven Controller to lead our accounting and finance operations. This key role is responsible for ensuring the financial health of the company through meticulous oversight of accounting activities, financial reporting, and forecasting. The Controller will collaborate closely with internal teams, external accountants, and senior leadership to drive financial accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency in our fast-growing business.Responsibilities Financial Operationsamp; Reporting:

  • Manage daily accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable and payroll.
  • Oversee the tracking and reporting of financial metrics like revenue, profit margins, and sales performance.
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely, accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for senior management review.
Budgetingamp; Forecasting:
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive financial models to support forecasting of revenue, expenses, and cash flow.
  • Collaborate with leadership on the annual budgeting process, as well as long-term financial planning.
  • Conduct variance analysis of budgets versus actual performance, identifying areas for cost optimization.
Cash Flowamp; Treasury Management:
  • Monitor cash flow, ensuring sufficient liquidity for ongoing operations.
  • Oversee payment processing, wire transfers, and maintain relationships with banking institutions.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and credit card statements to ensure accuracy and financial control.
Data Analysisamp; KPI Tracking:
  • Maintain daily tracking of financial and operational KPIs, such as sales, profitability, and unit volume.
  • Manage dashboards for real-time monitoring of performance metrics, providing actionable insights to key stakeholders.
  • Work alongside the Head of Amazon and other departmental leads to assess sales data and market trends.
Complianceamp; Documentation:
  • Ensure compliance with relevant tax laws, industry regulations, and internal standards.
  • Maintain accurate records for all financial transactions, including tax filings and contracts.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, accountants, and legal advisors to support audits and compliance initiatives.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between finance and other departments (operations, marketing, customer service).
  • Work with the bookkeeper and accountants to ensure proper recording and reconciliation of financial data.
  • Support the leadership team with ad-hoc financial analyses and contribute to strategic decision-making.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CFA designation preferred).
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in financial management or accounting, ideally in ecommerce or retail environments.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Expertise in accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, or similar platforms).
  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, macros, financial modeling).
  • Experience with financial reporting systems and KPI tracking tools.
Analytical Abilities: Strong capacity for data analysis and trend forecasting, with a focus on actionable insights.Communication: Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to distill complex financial information for non-finance team members.Detail-Oriented: Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining high accuracy.Leadership: Demonstrated experience collaborating with bookkeepers, accountants, and cross-functional teams.
