Job Description

Job DescriptionWe are seeking a skilled and experienced day-shift Crane Operator to join our team in Hamilton from Monday-Friday, 6:00am start time including some weekends, working out of the Stelco yard.As a Crane Operator, you will play a critical role in the safe and efficient handling of metal materials within our recycling facility, including pile sorting and rail and acculoader loading.Responsibilities:Acculoader Operations and Sea Container Coordination:

  • You will be loading the acculoader with the correct materials based on the specific requirements for sea containers
  • Demonstrating a thorough understanding of container weight specifications and allowable variables, including kg, lbs, and nt
  • Using the handheld radcom device daily to monitor and ensure accurate loading (training will be provided)
  • Capturing comprehensive photos and videos during the loading process and promptly communicating them to the Hamilton Scale team or your Supervisor
  • Maintaining a clean and organized workspace around the acculoader and bunker to ensure safe and efficient operations
  • Providing guidance and instructions to sea container drivers for yard alignment and safe loading procedures
Weight Checks:
  • Performing final quality checks on all outbound railcars to ensure adherence to quality standards
  • Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous materials to facilitate accurate sorting and handling
  • Developing an understanding of basic rail terminology through on-site training
  • Balancing and making necessary weight adjustments on railcars in a timely and efficient manner
  • Conducting weight adjustments on railcars to ensure proper balance and compliance with regulations
Weekend Stelco Relief:
  • Willingness and flexibility to work weekend shifts as needed in the Stelco yard, contributing to seamless operations
  • Participating in loading and unloading of trucks, ensuring materials are handled safely and efficiently
  • Assisting with tasks such as flattening coils and managing inbound commodities to support facility operations
