Job Description

RYGIEL Supports for Community Living is currently recruiting for a full-time General Accountant.Reporting to: Director of Financeamp; Administration Hours:37.5 hours per week (Perm. Mission Impactamp; Role Summary:Reporting to the Director of Financeamp; Administration, the General Accountant demonstrates responsibility and enhances the dignity and quality of life of our clients, visitors and staff by being accountable for the daily accounting functions, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, to ensure compliance with internal and external audit requirements.Responsibility, Availability, Hospitality, Adaptability, Quality and Dignity is aided by ensuring the accurate, efficient and timely processing of financial activities for multiple companies within approved system and organizational controls in compliance with internal and external audit requirements. Through responsible leadership and effective role modelling, the General Accountant is responsible for the demonstration of the Mission, Vision and Values at work within the Finance department and Rygiel Supports for Community Living.At Rygiel, we recognize the inherent value of people living with developmental disabilities and their right to quality care and services. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To carry out all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Mission and Values of Rygiel.
  • To provide a work ethic in leadership and role modelling of behaviours that demonstrates the Mission, Vision and Values of Rygiel.
  • To provide service in a dignified, culturally-competent and respectful manner that reflects the charism of Rygiel Centres and which reflects an integrated anti-racism/anti-oppression framework.
  • To maintain confidential records in secure files and communicate with internal and external stakeholders as necessary.
  • To provide back up and support to accounts payable function.
  • To ensure compliance with legislated regulations, funder accountability requirements, agency guidelines and policies, including but not limited to:
    • Monitor adherence to established approval and control processes in accordance with policy
  • To process all daily accounting functions including but not limited to:
    • Confirm accuracy of vendor invoices, their coding and follow up discrepancies
    • Contact appropriate program staff for payment approvals as required
    • Calculate tax distribution costs and recoveries
    • Record expense allocation codes for accounts payable processing
  • To process all weekly accounting functions including but not limited to:
    • Assist in processing of weekly cheque and EFT runs as required
  • To process all monthly accounting functions including but not limited to:
    • Post monthly recurring entries and accrual entries as required
    • Reconcile general ledger balance sheet accounts such as prepaid where needed
    • Complete monthly bank reconciliations in concert with Managers
    • Complete monthly corporate credit card reconciliations
    • Generate aged AP and AR reports
    • Prepare monthly government remittances for HST as directed
  • To process all annual accounting function including but not limited to:
    • Assist in the preparation of working papers for fiscal audit requirements
    • Maintain asset management records if applicable
  • Will be required to perform any other duties related to the Rygiel as directed by the Director of Financeamp; Administration or delegate.
Skill, Nature and Scope of Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, computer, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Minimum 2 years post-secondary education in accounting and 2-5 years of progressive experience in financial disciplines.
  • Valid Class G driver’s license.
  • Provide a current and original negative Vulnerable Sector Criminal Check prior to employment.
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination is required.
