We are on a mission to create a more sustainable future for us all and need talented professionals to help us reach our goals.Job DescriptionWe have an opportunity for an experienced Instrumentationamp; Controls Engineer to provide technical support in power systems, electrical design, and instrumentation for our heavy industrial projects. Creative and out-of-the-box thinkers are encouraged to apply.Responsibilities
  • Providing feasibility assessment and preliminary / detailed design for a variety of industrial facilities and commercial buildings
  • Work as an instrumentation and controls member of a multi-discipline design team with project teams in multiple offices.
  • Developing control strategies, provide input to P amp;IDs, control system specifications, termination diagrams, commissioning plans.
  • Design, specification, and integration of complete automation systems including PLC, HMI, DCS, and communication networks.
  • Participation in control panel design and generation of bill of materials, cabling, PLC and HMI programming, and commissioning for commercial and industrial facilities.
  • Performing FAT, pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
  • Complete control architecture drawings, PLC, cabinet and loop drawings.
  • Develop Datasheets and Material requisition packages for control systems and instrumentation.
  • Develop shutdown keys and control narratives.
  • Build instrument indexes.
  • Work will include power and control schemes, cable schedules, cable and conduit routings, equipment and cable tray layouts, protective relaying design and configuration.
  • Overseeing the quality of engineering documentation, equipment and installation related to the detailed design and engineering of industrial electrical power systems and controls.
  • Liaising with clients, contractors, and senior management members.
  • Preparing or supporting the development of proposals and project cost estimates, including assigning / managing workload, and balancing internal and client priorities.
  • Ensuring completion of deliverables, including travel to our clients’ work sites
  • Develop design criteria and standardized specifications.
  • Design and review engineering work packages, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, data sheets and Pamp; ID mark-ups.
  • Sizing of control valves and flow devices
  • Prepare various design calculations used in the discipline.
  • Specify instrumentation and control hardware ensuring functionality, material selection, and safety.
  • Review and check calculations, design models and drawings and design documents prepared by others in the group and by material suppliers, as assigned.
  • Work with designers in other disciplines in the overall assignment to coordinate designs.
  • Work independently and take the initiative to research information to complete assignments within the budgeted time.
  • Reviewing P amp;IDs and ensuring instrumentation is correct.
  • Instrument list, I/O List and Instrument Loop Drawings
  • Instrument Datasheets, instrument selection, review of vendor submissions
  • Mechanical Package Interconnection Drawings
  • Control Panel Design (PLC/DCS) and Junction Box layouts
  • Write Functional Description/Control Philosophy Document Cost estimating.
  • Control and telecommunications architecture
Qualifications
  • A recognized degree in Engineering with professional registration within any provincial jurisdiction in Canada
  • Minimum of 8 years’ progressive experience as a Controls and instrument engineer in heavy industry, mining, oilamp; gas and or renewable energy projects. Experience in Pulpamp; Paper is considered an asset.
  • Experience with ABB, Honeywell, or Emerson DCS and/or Schneider/Modicon or Rockwell PLC products is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in one or more control system languages will be considered an asset.
  • Experience in HMI development is considered an asset.
  • Experience with industrial network design and implementation including Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, and Modbus
  • Experience in Wireless Mesh Network design is considered an asset.
  • Good working knowledge of control wirings, loop diagrams and control system architecture
  • Experience in manhour estimate, budget monitoring and progress reporting would be a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of interfacing with DCS and PLC systems
  • General knowledge of instrumentation and controls standards (CEC, NEC, NFPA, CSA Z-462, IEEE, NACE, ISA, PIP and API)
  • Good working knowledge of AutoCAD preferred.
  • Strong MS Office skills, particularly in Excel
