Job Description

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:As required/directed:

  • Time horses during their morning “workouts”
  • Identify horses prior to the workouts
  • Record times and other required information
  • Liaise with required horsemen, staff and/or officials
  • Perform related clerical duties
  • Other duties as assigned
POSITION QUALIFICATIONSamp; ABILITIES:
  • Minimum Grade 12 Education or equivalent
  • Knowledge of thoroughbred horse racing operations and regulations preferred
  • Physical ability to perform duties (ie: good eyesight, manual dexterity – ability to operate a stopwatch or several simultaneously)
  • Ability to work in close proximity to horses, if required
  • ACCURACY/ATTENTION TO DETAIL; ability to focus in a busy environment (capable of timing several horses at once)
  • Good organizational abilities
  • Computer literacy an asset
  • Good communication and inter-personal skills, including good oralamp; written English, discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work effectively without direct supervision; honesty
  • Must successfully pass a criminal and credit record check by the Gaming and Policy Enforcement Branch (GPEB) - Racing
