The opportunities for professional challenges and career advancement are diverse and encourage all to excel.Position OverviewThe Paymaster prepares and processes payroll for all non-union and unionized employees. He is responsible for the billing and administration of the benefits module. He is responsible for the general correspondence that falls under his responsibility. The Paymaster ensures the accuracy of calculations related to the preparation of the payroll while respecting the established parameters (collective agreements, labour standards, accounting rules, etc.). He performs calculations and verifications concerning specific payments, such as retroactivity, special payments and remuneration to be paid according to the rules set out by the Canada Revenue Agency and others, as well as the adjustments to be made when employees move. He is also responsible for resetting various employee leave banks or other. Finally, he assists in the execution of certain year-end activities such as the production of the T4 and the MDC report.Education and experience

  • College diploma in administration, accounting or finance
  • Member of the Canadian Payroll Association
  • Payroll compliance specialist, an asset
  • At least 3 years experience in payroll management in a unionized environment
Skills
  • Must have a good knowledge of current collective agreements, pension plan, group insurance policies and the various legislations that govern employees and the Employer;
  • Extensive knowledge of manual and computerized payroll processing and ability to set up payroll software;
  • Proven problem solving, critical thinking and decision making skills
  • Thorough knowledge of spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel) and general knowledge of word processing (Microsoft Word);
  • Fluency in English and French;
  • Completion of the Canadian Payroll Associations Payroll Compliance Legislation course;
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, tact, discretion, autonomy and initiative;
  • Demonstrate the ability and experience to work with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and perform mathematical calculations and statistical analysis;
  • Good planning and organization skills to meet deadlines;
  • Demonstrate flexibility and ability to work in a changing environment;
  • Demonstrate an excellent customer service approach where attention to detail is important;
  • Demonstrate good judgment and discretion.
