Job Description

Who We Are- Keltic Lodge Resort and Spa is a historic Cape Breton Resort and is located in the heart of Cape Breton Highlands National Park overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Just 2 hours from Sydney, NS and a 5 hour drive from Halifax, the resort has been welcoming guests to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia since July 1940.We hiring for the following kitchen positions: Line CookNumber of Vacancies- 12Essential Functions-· Set up and stocking of stations with all necessary supplies· Prepare food for service (e.g., chopping vegetables, butchering meat, or preparing sauces)· Cook menu items in collaboration with the rest of the kitchen staff· Answer, report and follow executive or sous chef’s instructions· Clean up station and take care of leftover food· Stock inventory appropriately· Ensure that food comes out simultaneously, in high quality and in a timely fashion· Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards· Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers· Communicate effectively with coworkers and customers in an English work environmentRequired Qualifications-· Culinary school diploma, completion of apprenticeship program or at least 2 years of proven commercial cooking experience, including experience as a Line Chef, Restaurant Cook or Prep Cook· Excellent understanding of various cooking methods from a variety of cuisines· Intermediate English proficiency to communication in English work environment· Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks· Ability to stand for a long period of time and lift supply itemsWage- $16-$20 per hour, based on experience + tips. See bonus details below.-------------------BakerNumber of Vacancies- 1Essential Functions-

  • Bake breads, pies, cakes, cookies and other pastries as necessary per the provided production and catering sheets and assist in production planning to meet daily requirements.
  • Ensure proper food preparation by utilizing approved recipes, following prescribed production standards and use of proper equipment.
  • Assist with the completion of production records to include waste tracking, used/unused portions and product shortages and inform supervisor when supplies are low.
  • Ensure proper presentation, food quality, portion control and maintenance of proper serving temperatures.
  • Maintain sanitation and orderliness of all equipment, supplies and utensils within work area.
  • Handle food items appropriately and with all safety regulations in mind during preparation and service.
  • Clean equipment and workstation thoroughly before leaving the area for other assignments and keep display equipment clean and free of debris.
  • Consistently exhibit the ability to keep up with peak production and service calmly, accurately and efficiently.
  • Check to ensure that all food is presented, served and displayed per standards.
  • Follow principles of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and customers in an English work environment.

  • Creating pastries, baked goods, and confections, by following a set recipe
  • Actively participate in the development and creation of new seasonally inspired dishes.
  • Decorating pastries and desserts to ensure beautiful and tasteful presentation.
  • Work with a variety of kitchen equipment. i.e ovens, stand mixers, counter top mixers, torches.
  • Ensuring workstation is kept clean and orderly.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and customers in an English work environment.
Required Qualifications-· Completion of an apprenticeship, college or other program in baking or pastry making, or at least 2 years of pastry cooking experience in a commercial kitchen· Excellent understanding of various baking and pastry making methods· Intermediate English proficiency to communication in English work environment· Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks· Ability to stand for a long period of time and lift supply itemsWage- $16-$20 per hour, based on experience + tips. See bonus details below.-------------------Kitchen DishwasherNumber of Vacancies- 6Essential Functions-
  • Clean and sanitize items such as dishwasher mats, carts and waste disposal units
  • Operate dishwashers to wash dishes, glassware and flatware
  • Place dishes in storage area
  • Sanitize and wash dishes and other items by hand
  • Scour pots and pans
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen including work surfaces, cupboards, storage areas, appliances and equipment
  • Handle and store cleaning products
  • Receive, unpack and store supplies in refrigerators, freezers, cupboards and other storage areas
  • Remove kitchen garbage and trash
  • Sweep, mop, wash and polish floors
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and customers in an English work environment
Required Qualifications-· Basic English proficiency to communicate in English work environment.· Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks.· Ability to stand for a long period of time and lift supply items.Wage- $16-$20 per hour, based on experience + tips. See bonus details below.-------------------Additional Details for all PositionsJob Type- This a full-time seasonal position, from May to October 2023 and May to October 2024. We will consider candidates available for one season or both. Those who work both seasons will be eligible for a monetary bonus (see details below).Hours of work- 30 to 40 hours per week. Shifts include: weekends, holidays, morning, afternoon and evenings. Overtime may be required.Bonus - An additional bonus of $2 per hour for each hour worked will be provided to all employees after October 31st, 2023 who a) work a minimum of 500 hours for the season between May and October and b) work until at least the first Saturday of September 2023.
