Recognized as a prime tourist area for its year-round leisure opportunities, Kawartha Lakes is rich in culture and heritage, a strong agricultural community, and abundant in all the amenities being sought by residents and visitors alike.Job DescriptionReporting to the Manager of Fleet, the Transit Supervisor is responsible to provide a safe, affordable and reliable public transit service in accordance with applicable legislation, corporate policy and objectives.

  • On a day-to-day basis you will be responsible for supervising the development, maintenance and integrity of the municipal transit system; both conventional and specialized services
  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the transit division and schedule transit drivers to ensure compliance to route timing and hours of work, ESA standards and the HTA
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a program to improve transit ridership which will include route maps and user guides through improved access and route management techniques
  • Collect information and organize data for review by Manager and submit to the Ministry as required
  • Manage and resolve customer concerns and issues
  • Gather information and prepare reports to improve efficiencies in the system
  • Assist the Fleet Supervisor with scheduling buses for service and repair
  • Work with the Transit Advisory Committee to achieve like-minded goals
  • Responsible for the hiring, discipline, dismissal, performance management and training of staff, in consultation with the Manager, Director and Human Resources
  • Administer the terms of the applicable Collective Agreements, in collaboration with Human Resources
Requirements and QualificationsYou will be a motivated and competent leader and mentor with a post-secondary education in Business, Transportation, or related field, and,
  • Minimum of four (4) years of progressive experience, preferably in a municipal transit environment, with bus driving experience;
  • Supervisory experience in a unionized environment;
  • Experience working with Management Boards, Commissions or Advisory Committees an asset
  • Knowledge of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) as it relates to Public Transit and the Highway Traffic Act
  • Excellent analytical, research, time and project management skills showing good judgment and sound problem solving abilities to interpret data and present information in a timely, logical and recognizable form
  • Strong leadership skills to motivate staff and to improve divisional effectiveness and efficiency
  • Demonstrated customer-service skills at a level to develop and to maintain cooperative/collaborative working relationships both within and outside the organization
  • Strong Microsoft Office suite knowledge with a good understanding of scheduling software and GPS data
  • Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “C” or “E” Driver’s Licence
