Job Description

The Four Points by Sheraton - Kelowna Airport is currently looking for a Banquet Manager. We are also on a bus route, with a stop just outside of the hotel, and are our complimentary shuttle also picks up our employees from the bus loop at UBCO.What will you be doingUnder the direction of the Foodamp; Beverage Manager ,the Banquet Manager is part of the Food and Beverage leadership team and is responsible for all phases of banquet functions. The Banquet Manager coordinates activity on a daily basis and ensures that all service standards, departmental policies are followed by banquet staff.

  • Provides clear and concise communications to everyone having ownership in the success of the event.
  • Identifies training opportunities and plans a strategy to accomplish goals.
  • Understands the impact of Banquet operations on the overall success of an event and manages activities to maximize customer satisfaction.
  • Adheres to and reinforces all standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Manages departmental inventories and maintains equipment.
  • Schedules banquet service staff to forecast and service standards, while maximizing profits.
  • Assists team in developing lasting relationships with groups to retain business and increase growth.
  • Sets goals and delegates tasks to improve departmental performance.
  • Acts as a liaison to the kitchen staff.
  • Leads shifts and actively participates in the servicing of events.
  • Sets a positive example for guest relations.
  • Interacts with guests to obtain feedback on product quality and service levels.
  • Responds to and handles guest problems and complaints.
  • Empowers employees to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ensures employees understand expectations and parameters.
  • Emphasizes guest satisfaction during all departmental meetings and focuses on continuous improvement.
  • Reviews guest satisfaction results with employees.
  • Communicates and executes departmental and property emergency procedures and ensures staff are trained in safety procedures.
  • Attends and participates in all pertinent meetings.
  • Responsible for ordering supplies/ linens for functions
  • Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time. Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds without assistance.
  • Meet and greet clients.
  • Responsible for the overall sanitation and cleanliness of the work areas, banquet rooms and storage areas.
  • Responsible for the proper usage and good working order of all equipment, furniture and fixtures in the Banquet and Catering Section
  • Provide unique and creative ideas to enhance meetingsamp; group experience.
  • Should possess in depth Knowledge of Food and Beverage preparation and presentation.
  • Guide the Banquet servers in set up of tables and place settings.
  • Be familiar with all current and upcoming event details.
  • Resolve staff and customer concerns quickly and efficiently.
  • Should be able to work under pressure and work in long or break shifts.
  • Prepare weekly/daily duty lists to correspond with banquet functions and manage labour training and performance management.
  • Create a fun, safe and exciting working environment championing H amp;S initiatives
  • Give daily support and guidance to fellow service personnel as well as monitor job performance to ensure designed experience is delivered to our guests
  • Coach and train employees as well as provide disciplinary action when required
  • Ensure proper record keeping, inventory and cash handling procedures are followed
  • Understands Marriot and Hilton brand standards and assists with implementation
What are we looking for
  • Minimum 2 years’ supervisor experience as a banquet supervisor or similar role.
  • Must possess superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate extreme organization in a fast paced environment while acting as a team player
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a large and variable work load, ensuring timely and accurate completion of assigned work
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
