Job Description

Our client, the Central Okanagan Food Bank (COFB) is a non-profit, charitable organization committed to creating a hunger-free community by providing healthy, nutritious food those who need it most. They rely on the generosity of the community to support the work they do through the donation of food, funds, and time. These donations come from individuals, families, organizations and community groups as well as various fundraising/food-raising efforts. The Central Okanagan Food Bank is looking for an enthusiastic Engagement Coordinator to join their dynamic Kelowna team on a full-time basis. As a dynamic leader gifted in engagement and relationship building,theprimary responsibility of this role is to lead the coordination, onboarding, scheduling and engagement of all volunteers.As a volunteeramp; people driven organization, the successful candidate has exemplary emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills. Every day, there are between 20 and 30 volunteers onsite along with the organization’s team who all make their operation possible. As a growing organization supporting food security in many communities, you will also be the main point of contact for Human Resources (Peopleamp; Culture) matters.You will be mentored by and liase with a member of the Potentia HR team (outsourced HR firm) to ensure your success and growth in this area.Each day will be filled with opportunities to impact the community in a very meaningful way! Responsibilities: Volunteer Coordination:

  • Lead new employee and volunteer orientation, onboarding, and training programs;
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute events, activities, and programs aimed at boosting engagement and stewardship of volunteers;
  • Recognize and celebrate volunteer contributions using creative forms of appreciation;
  • Create job descriptions in collaboration with department leaders, manage job postings; schedule and support and/or lead the interview process for employees and volunteers;
  • Establish and maintain a volunteer retainment strategy while building relationships with community organizations, schools, and businesses to promote volunteer opportunities;
  • Work closely with other coordinators to ensure adequate volunteer support;
  • Greet and assist donating parties, ensuring a highly positive interaction.
Peopleamp; Culture Coordination:
  • Maintain confidential employee and volunteer records and documentation. Manage employee life cycle documentation;
  • Participate in developing organizational guidelines, policies, procedures and related documentation;
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of employee and volunteer programs and make recommendations for improvements;
  • Monitor industry trends and best practices in volunteer management;
  • Support and coordinate the occupational health and safety program;
  • Administer and act as the primary liaison for WorkSafe BC initiatives, disability/leave of absence management, and return-to-work programs;
  • Collaborate with Payroll to process employee status and payroll/tax changes (including changes in pay, position, and personal information);
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead and engage volunteers and employees;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong presentation, problem-solving and relationship management skills;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals to build organizational capacity;
  • Capacity to identify gifts and task volunteers accordingly;
  • Knowledge of issues related to social programming, hunger and poverty;
  • Competency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and data management systems;
  • Ability to relate effectively with diverse Board members, major donors, foundation staff, media outlets and community audiences;
  • Highly organized and flexible with the ability to work autonomously to manage multiple priorities, tasks and relationships in a fast-paced, non-profit environment;
  • A flair for leveraging technology and adept at learning and implementing new systems;
  • A desire to learn by challenging yourself, reaching up and stretching your abilities, and striving for excellence;
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to attend donor businesses, schools, events and other related locations throughout the Okanagan valley required;
  • This position may require occasional evening or weekend work.
This is a full-time, onsite opportunity. Salary will be aligned with experience level and is anticipated to start between $47,840 to $52,000 per year.
