Job Description

Our client, Evergreen Commercial Cleaning, is a dynamic organization that specializes in daily and weekly janitorial services and office cleaning. They are currently seeking a Financial Controller to join their team. Reporting to CEOamp; President, the Financial Controller will play a crucial role in managing financial operations across multiple entities. As the successful candidate key responsibilities will include, managing and running payroll for a team of 100+ employees across multiple provinces, working closely with CRA and ensuring compliance with regulations and audits, as well as invoicing and AR collection. In this role, you will also be responsible to provide strategic guidance to drive the business forward. You will work in collaboration with the owners of the company to establish budgets and forecasts, develop, monitor and evaluate processes, policies, and take care of the day to day full-cycle accounting needs. As an experienced professional, you will have the depth of knowledge to oversee the accounting function, however, you will also know when the time is right to dive into the details. With a flair for communication and collaboration, you will work with the others in the office to understand the business, streamline processes, and ensure that the working environment is positive and proactive.This role is located in Kelowna, BC. Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver high-quality financial products in compliance with internal and external reporting standards;
  • Prepare and analyze accurate and timely financial statements, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and budgets;
  • Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes, providing strategic recommendations to the CEO based on financial analysis, industry trends, and business objectives;
  • Ensure financial compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and accounting standards;
  • Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data;
  • Conduct detailed financial analysis identifying areas for cost reduction, revenue enhancement, and process improvement, as well as provide actionable recommendations;
  • Manage cash flow and develop and implement cash flow forecasting models to support decision-making and mitigate financial risks;
  • Complete all financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger. Implement and maintain efficient financial systems and processes to streamline operations and improve efficiency;
  • Perform a detailed review of reconciliations. Ensure journal entries and transactions are posted appropriately;
  • Perform general ledger reconciliations including bank reconciliations, payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable;
  • Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing for employees and subcontractors;
  • Perform collections, building connections with clients to ensure timely payments;
  • Coordinate and manage external audits, collaborate with auditors to ensure compliance, and resolve any accounting issues, including vehicle audits;
  • Contribute to proposal preparations and respond to RFPs;
  • Manage WorkSafe BC claims and audits;
  • Engage in HR-related activities, serving as the main point of contact for employees;
  • Collaborate with the CEO on other projects as required.
Requirements
  • CPA designation or an equivalent combination of skills and experience;
  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller or similar role, with a minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience;
  • Experience in government procurement processes is considered an asset;
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting;
  • Extensive experience in financial management, regulatory requirements, compliance and audits;
  • Tech savvy with strong computer and administrative skills;
  • Proficiency in cloud-based accounting software such as QuickBooks;
  • High level of critical and logical thinking, with strong problem solving and decision-making skills;
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills both verbal and written, maintaining a professional and approachable work environment;
  • Strong understanding of business operations with the ability to build connections with clients, asking the right questions;
  • A “can-do” attitude with a willingness to jump in and help where needed;
  • Self-motivated and an ability to work independently, as well as in a team-environment;
  • Flexibility is a must to adapt to changing work priorities.
This is a full-time opportunity located in Kelowna, BC, offering an excellent total compensation package, including employer paid benefits, growth opportunities, and flexible hybrid working environment. The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $100,000 per annum based on previous experience.
