Job Description

Who is Community INC: Community INC was incorporated in 2001 as a not for profit to respond to the local need of targeted employment services for persons with disabilities. Since that time, Community INC has offered a variety of employability programming in East Annapolis, Kings and West Hants counties. Majority of our programming is inclusive to all job seekers but we maintain a focus on ensuring that they meet the needs of the full community, inclusive of persons with disabilities in addition to persons from communities traditionally excluded from the labour market – persons from the African Nova Scotian community, Indigenous community, new Canadians, LBGTQ+ community, women interested in male dominated industries and persons living in poverty.The Opportunity: This particular opportunity is with the Nova Scotia Works Employment Services Centre located in Kentville, NS. NS Works offers diverse and inclusive employment services to job seekers, employers and youth throughout NS. Community INC is one of 17 organizations who deliver these services on behalf of NS Department of Labour and Advanced Education – Employment Nova Scotia.This is a term opportunity with a current expected end date of February 28, 2022 but with an expected extension to June 2022. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who is interested in the career development field and would like to gain experience.Responsibilities Include: · Conducting needs assessments· Identify client’s barriers to employment· Developing a client action plan to address barriers to employment· Managing client files and maintaining client database· Internal and external referrals for services and programming as part of meeting their career goals· Monitoring, evaluating and adjusting action plan as needed· Providing follow up with clients and recording outcomes· Submitting monthly statistical and activity reports to manager· Working with a supportive team to enhance client success· Completing community outreach to further connect with area job seekers· Providing an inclusive and supportive environment that inspires hope and supportQualifications:

  • Degree or Post-secondary Education in Human Service or related field of study or a combination of education and work related/community and volunteer experience
  • Experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet/ Email
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.
Skills & Competencies: · Knowledge of community organizations, service providers, and referral agencies; or a willingness and desire to build a positive network through outreach, researching available resources, learning from team members, and experience developing and maintaining a positive professional network in the past.· Excellent communication skills – written, verbal and active listening; important to be able to clearly explain multi step processes in a clear way that meets the needs of the listener(s), recording information well to clearly convey key concepts and listening to truly understand.· Team Work – believes in good communication and cooperation in a team environment, seeks to find common ground and resolve issues as they arise with respect and compassion, and assertiveness.· Ability to access and effectively use information and communication technology· Commitment to professional development and career self-management· Knowledge of MS Office applications and online communication tools· Problem solving – people have complex challenges and situations, so it is important to approach situations with creativity and with the expectation that solutions and options are possible.· Ethics / Integrity – has clear professional boundaries, operates with honesty, takes responsibility for mistakes and seeks to grow as a result, does what they commit to doing.· Accessibility – believes that everyone should be able to access spaces / programs / services and not be faced with artificial socially created barriers.· Equity – is committed to everyone having the same opportunities· Inclusion – being personally invested in providing a welcoming and supportive environment where all people feel seen, heard and celebrated.Contract length: 4 monthsApplication deadline: 2022-01-28Expected start date: 2022-01-31Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contractSalary: $22.84-$24.45 per hourSchedule:
