Job Description

General Labourer Do you have a background in building trades Are you proficient in basic operation of trucks, utility trailers and mechanical equipment Do you have your driver’s license Are you interested in becoming part of a team that is doing something new and revolutionary If so, we would like to meet you.Tate Engineering is an engineering, project management, and consulting firm. We are seeking general labourers on behalf of our partner to support the construction of multi-unit residential buildings in the valley area.About the Position We are looking for General Labourers to take up manual labour tasks and support operations in worksites. This is an exciting opportunity where you will play an important role in the delivery of a high-quality service to our client in the valley area.Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities of General Labourer:

  • Clean up worksites from hazardous or obsolete material
  • Assist welders, carpenters, painters or other tradespeople onsite
  • Handle and transport materials (e.g. cement) and equipment (e.g. drills and grinders)
  • Use power tools and machinery (e.g. forklifts) when needed
  • Follow instructions from supervisors to perform manual labor tasks (e.g. digging, stacking up goods)
  • Put up warning signs (e.g. signposts, cones) for vehicles and passersby
  • Help with setting up and transferring temporary structures (e.g. scaffolding)
  • Report issues with equipment or unsafe conditions
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • You are seeking an opportunity to experience hands-on field work. Previous construction site experience is required.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy loads of up to 50 pounds etc.)
  • Good hand-eye coordination.
  • Have your own tools to complete standard tasks. You are able to operate and troubleshoot basic machinery (training will be provided). Familiarity with power tools and machinery is a plus.
  • Knowledge of appropriate materials, methods, and the tools required in various assembly processes.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures. You value your commitment to safety.
  • PPE (CSA certified safety boots, hat and vest).
  • Ability to read blueprints and other technical diagrams
  • You are detail oriented, are a problem-solver, and understand the importance of process. You have a critical eye for identifying defects
  • Effective verbal and listening communications and teamwork skills
  • You are confident but check your ego at the door. There are no rock stars here and no departments. The whole team owns the entire project – together.
  • You appreciate candour and understand the best breakthroughs often happen during passionate, heated debates. Tiptoeing isn’t an option.
  • You are comfortable speaking your mind, asking questions, sharing ideas, and enjoy the magic that results from curiosity and creative collaboration.
  • Time management skills. You are hardworking and dedicated but appreciate life balance. You have the ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Respect diversity - treat others with respect – avoid unnecessary conflict.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
  • WHMIS
  • Knowledge of First Aid and CPR is an asset.
  • First aid and forklift/telehandler operator certificates an asset.
  • You care about the work you do and the people you work with!
  • Apprenticeship or specialization is an asset, but not necessary.
Education and/or Experience: High school diploma, GED or the equivalent of 3+ years experience in a building trades role is considered an asset. Thorough knowledge of the construction industry or building maintenance is preferred.Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry (calculating areas and volumes).Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
