Visit us today and check out www.novascotia.com to see why more people from across the globe are moving here.ResponsibilitiesReporting to and under the direction of the Manager, Health Information Services, Coding & Abstracting/Release of Information and /or designate, the Health Record Technician is responsible for the release of personal health information in accordance with the Personal Health Information Protection Act, (PHIPA) and NSH/Zone Area/hospital policy & providing accurate coding and abstraction of Inpatient, Day Surgery, and Emergency health information.Release of InformationThe Release of Information Specialist is responsible to ensure that patient confidentiality and privacy are maintained prior to the disclosure of patient information. The individual will have excellent understanding of the privacy legislation, privacy and confidentiality of patient information. The HIM professional will be able to work independently, be well organized and able to prioritize workload to ensure timely access and disclosure of personal health information. The individual will have excellent knowledge and experience in an electronic health record environment, as well as a paper-based system. The individual will demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, demonstrating initiative, identify opportunities for improvement and have excellent communication skills. The individual will maintain patient confidentiality and have knowledge and understanding of privacy principles.Travel to other sites may be required.Qualifications
