The physician scope of practice will be anatomic pathology/clinical pathology providing clinical oversight of hematopathology/biochemistry. On-call coverage will be required.Valley Regional Hospital (VRH) opened its doors to patients in 1992. The hospital serves the people of Kings and Annapolis Counties, and provides specialty services as a referral centre for the Annapolis Valley and other areas of Western Nova Scotia. Located in Kentville, VRH is a 137 inpatient bed facility that provides inpatient, outpatient, and satellite care to approximately 80,000 residents.Services:

ResponsibilitiesAnatomic pathology: sign out including surgical pathology (approximately 4000 cases/yr), cytology (approximately 1000 cases/yr) , immuno-histochemistry (approximately 1500 cases/yr), autopsy pathology; oversight of gross pathologyClinical pathology: oversight of hematopathology (including peripheral smear sign out; approximately 500 cases/yr) and biochemistry. Oversight of hematopathology and biochemistry includes input into:
  • appropriate test/equipment selection
  • test development/validation/implementation
  • implementation of a continuous quality improvement program
  • implementation of appropriate quality control processes
  • staffing levels
  • strategic direction
  • assistant in staffing hires as needed
  • appropriate utilization of tests/products
  • provide clinical advise to HCPs as appropriate
Expected Hours
  • full-time, permanent
  • on-call rota
Qualifications
  • all applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • all specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
  • membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
