Job Description

Community Inclusion Society delivers one of the Nova Scotia Works Employment Services Centres that are available throughout the province of Nova Scotia. Our main centre is located in downtown Kentville with a secondary centre located in Windsor.We are excited to offer a Summer Internship opportunity for up to 16 weeks for an individual currently attending and planning to return to post-secondary studies in the fall. The successful candidate would be filling the role of Information Resource Specialist with a focus on youth employment services. Information Resource Specialists are the first point of contact with our centre – and are responsible for explaining the menu of services, providing information on available community resources, completing intakes for new clients, assisting with job search related tools and job applications, assisting in the creation of social media content and assisting in the delivery of workshops / webinars on topics related to job search.This opportunity will provide training, experience as well as exposure to the breadth of career options available through the Nova Scotia Works system. In these unprecedented times, it continues to be crucial to prepare our student population for excellent career opportunities in Nova Scotia.This opportunity may be of particular interest to students in human services, education, social work, social sciences and humanities programs, but is not limited to these areas of study.Mandatory Requirements:· Applicants must be graduating from high school and entering post secondary in the fall of 2022, or be a student returning to post secondary studies this fall.· Preferred applicants will be students with a future goal of working in a Career Development profession· Although hiring a youth is an objective of the initiative, an intern may be of any age so long as they are a student/enrolled in post-secondary education in fall 2021.· A clean criminal record check· Experience and / or interest in working with a diverse client base, in particular marginalized populations· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of programs· Awareness of Trauma Informed Practice· Preferred – Standard First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Intervention, NVCI / MandtRequired Skills: · Excellent interpersonal and judgment skills· Strong and effective communication skills – verbal and written· Experience / strong interest in working / volunteering with persons from diverse backgrounds· Accurate record keeping practices· Excellent time management skills· A commitment to life-long learning· Good knowledge of community organizations, service providers, and referral agencies.· Professional presentation· Strong computer skills, with the ability to work in a computerized environment using MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook programs· Willingness to learn and growApplication Guidance: Community INC is proud to be an inclusive employer who encourages diverse applicants.Increasing the hiring of underrepresented groups is also one of the identified goals of the Summer Internship program – so please self-identify in your cover letter if you self-identify as one or more of the following:
