Job Description

Community Living Alternatives Society (CLAS) is a non-profit, community based organization located in Kings County, Nova Scotia. CLAS provides residential services for persons living with intellectual disabilities and is committed to person centered supports, advocacy and social inclusion. Currently we are recruiting for the position of Supervisor.Reporting to the Executive Director/Program Director the Supervisor is responsible for the overall supervision and efficient operation of assigned residential program areas.Responsibilities:

  • Ensures adherence to the philosophy and aims of CLAS, Policy & Procedures, Collective Agreement, Homes for Special Care Act, Department of Community Services licensing regulations, Protection for Persons in Care Act, and Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Effectively performs human resource duties including interviewing, hiring, orientation, coaching and performance management.
  • Ensures staff are providing optimal supports and quality of life for residents of CLAS.
  • Coordinates resident and staff involvement in the development, implementation, and evaluation of individual program plans (My Plan).
  • Preparation and management of staff schedules, utilizing computerized scheduling software.
  • General understanding of financial controls and the ability to understand and adhere to program area budgets.
  • Participates in supervisor on call system on a rotational basis and covers for other supervisor absences.
The ideal candidate for this position will have the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Community College Diploma in Human Services or other related field.
  • Certification in the seven core competencies as per the Department of Community Services.
  • Minimum of three years full time equivalency of supervisory experience in direct residential care. Preference will be given to those with experience in supporting residents living with an intellectual disability, dual diagnosis and acquired brain injury.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership, coaching, team building, staff training and conflict resolution.
  • A solid understanding of the principles of person-centered planning.
  • Ability to establish, promote, and enhance collaborative working relationships.
  • Above average communication, organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to self-initiate, problem solve and demonstrates critical thinking skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a safe, reliable vehicle.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
  • Experience with the use of Microsoft 365
