Job descriptionThe Support Worker is responsible for providing support to the Members of SSG and assisting them in daily activities maximizing their freedom and dignity.Reporting Relationships and RolesThe Support Worker communicates with the Coordinators and Team Leaders of SSG and, as well as other areas within the organization. The Support Worker reports first to the Team Lead (if in place, otherwise to Coordinators) who reports to the Coordinators.Broad job expectations include the following: · Transport Members to appointments, leisure activities and other outings as necessary· Interact effectively and respectfully with the Members in his/her home and community· Build relationships with the Members and co-workers· Support and promote the relationships with family and friends while maintaining a supportive environment within the Member’s home· Support and promote friendly and effective working relationships with community partners who may include but not limited to Care Coordinators, Day Program Staff, etc.· Support and promote community based opportunities according to the Member’s care plan· Attend and contribute in a positive manner at team meetings and special events such as parties, vacations and other celebrations· Followed safe work procedures and rules· Cooperate with the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee or representative· Assist with the orientation and training of new Support Workers to ensure competent, confident employees thus ensuring the health, safety and comfort of the Members we supportPersonal Care Duties: · Follow individual protocols for personal care· Report to the Team Leader or to the Coordinator(s) changes in the Member’s health· Assist the Member in the most respectful manner possible with bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, administering medications and all other aspects of personal hygiene and care as required· Encourage that the Member to meet their greatest potential for independence· Assist the Member in attending professional appointments (medical, dental, etc.)Social and Recreational Duties: · Organize, support and encourage recreational/social activities with the Member based on his/her care plan and personal choices· Support Workers are expected to model appropriate social behaviour and conduct themselves accordinglyHousehold Duties: · Encourage and perform (as stated in care plan) general household duties related to the upkeep and minor repair of the Member’s home and property to maintain the best possible standards of cleanliness and maintenance.· Duties include, but may not be limited to: meal preparation, clean up, laundry, ironing, vacuuming, mopping and sweeping floors, making beds; cleaning countertops, appliances, sinks, walls, windows, mirrors, bathroom fixtures, wheelchairs, etc. ; sorting and taking out garbage, mowing lawns, putting up curtain roads, shopping, purchasing clothing and sundries as necessaryEssential Skills and Qualifications for the position include: · Excellent written, verbal and communication skills· Strong attention to detail while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality· Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills· Ability to work in a team environment· Ability to work with vulnerable people and demonstrate empathy· Working knowledge of email/text communicationJob Types: Casual, PermanentSalary: $15.85-$19.02 per hourPart-time hours: 20-40 per weekJob Types: Full-time, Part-time, Casual, PermanentSalary: $15.85-$19.02 per hourBenefits:
