Job Description

The Shoreline Power Group is a Joint Venture of Aecon, United and SNC-Lavalin. Shoreline Power Group will be completing the Fuel Channel and Feeder Replacement (FCFR) project. The joint venture has been awarded a contract by Bruce Power to execute the Unit 6 FCFR at the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station in Kincardine, Ontario. This project is part of Bruce Power’s Life Extension Program, which will allow Bruce Power’s CANDU units to continue to operate safely through to 2064, the project is the centerpiece of the Major Component Replacement (MCR) program to replace the main components of the reactor. Unit 6 is the first of six reactors being replaced by Bruce Power through the MCR program. The scope of work includes the removal and replacement of calandria tubes, pressure tubes, and feeders for Unit 6, as well as construction management and trade labour. Work is scheduled to commence in June 2020, with expected completion in the third quarter of 2022.PURPOSE OF THE POSITIONReporting to the Sr. Training/Onboarding Manager, the Series Training Manager will be accountable to ensure all project personnel receive all required project specific training. Training categories include Work Task / Series Technical Training.The Training Manager will lead a cross functional team of Trainers, Technical Subject Matter Experts, Engineers, Trades Supervision and Trades, and all support services required to prepare and manage the project training plan. The primary goal of the Series Training Manager will be to ensure sufficient numbers of qualified staff are in role per the staffing plan. This includes trained and qualified trades to support critical path construction work.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparation of a comprehensive training plan for the Fuel Channel and Feeder Replacement Project
  • Generation, execution, and management of a staffing plan for the training team, including trainers, technical SMEs, Engineers, Supervision and support staff required to effectively execute training activities through the life of the project
  • Generation of a detailed training schedule to align with Project needs, including field production / critical path execution activities
  • Management of training facilities, including mock-ups required to carry out work specific series training
  • Identification and resolution of any training deficiencies within the Project
  • Identification of training requirements by individual on the project, through generation and management of “Training Needs Analyses”
  • Developing the curriculum for all of the training requirements identified for project completion
  • Liaise with operations and implementation leads to ensure training programs will meet project needs
  • Developing a continuous improvement training plan focused on lessons learned throughout the course of the project
  • Delivering all training programs and courses in an engaging manner to ensure retention of content
  • Managing all training department staff and assessing their performance
  • Liaising with the client to identify synergies across previously implemented training systems
  • Maintaining project schedule with respect to training activities and readiness for project execution sequences
  • Leverage past technical knowledge to make the best use of resources available (skilled trades, mockups, factory acceptance trials, etc) to enhance the training program
  • Planning and executing training activities as above
  • Other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide leadership to Series Training staff and direct reports
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
  • Minimum of (10) ten years’ experience in Management of projects in the Nuclear industry (or satisfactory combination of multiple industries)
  • Post-secondary education in technical and/or management field
  • Experience in managing training/development for nuclear construction, outage execution, or related projects
  • Significant experience in Candu reactor refurbishment (fuel channel and feeder replacement)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Highly self-motivated team player with a participative management style and strong interpersonal skills
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
  • Monitoring, reporting and compliance with the Project Training budget
  • Fiscal responsibility as required by the Joint Venture agreement
EXTENT OF PUBLIC CONTACT
  • Customers, suppliers, JV Partners
  • Project Superintendents, Project Managers, Engineering, Tooling Management team, project personnel,
  • Trades personnel, union business agents
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Various work locations in both field and office
  • Travel as necessary
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
  • Due to the nature of work conducted by Shoreline, mandated nuclear export controls requirements must be met for employment
