Job Description

The Kativik Regional Government (KRG), a supra municipal body with jurisdiction over the territorylocated north of the 55th parallel, is now looking for a self-motivated and dynamic individual interestedin joining the KRG to work in the capacity of:CONSERVATION & EDUCATION SPECIALISTReporting to the Assistant Director of the Renewable Resources Department, the Conservation &Education Specialist has the mandate to ensure ecological integrity is maintained and implement andupdate the educational plans of Nunavik parks. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Ensure that the ecological integrity of the Nunavik Parks are maintained:
o Implement the conservation plans;o Design, implement and update monitoring plans;o Propose and realize research projects designed to validate and increase knowledge ofthe parks;o Analyze and monitor scientific research projects approved by the HarmonizationCommittees;o Ensure that the activities of the visitors and the park employees are respectful of theenvironmental code of ethics and park regulations;o In collaboration with Park Wardens, monitor the wildlife protection plan;o Manage, update and deliver training to the staff concerning parks conservation andeducation missions;
  • Implement and update the education plan for Nunavik parks:
o Ensure the complementary nature of park activities;o Ensure that the yearly activities foreseen in the Education Plan are realized;o Design and identify educational material;o In collaboration with the local and regional education authorities, develop and deliver aschool program on Nunavik Parks;o Validate the educational components of parks communications;o Provide expertise in the organization of interpretive activities including the presentation ofexhibits in the interpretation centers.o Assist in meetings of the Harmonization Committees.
  • Act as a resource person in the development of Nunavik Parks:
o For each new park created, participate in the preparation of education and conservationplans;o Participate in the development and realization of the park exhibitions for the interpretationcenters;o As required, provide expertise in activities leading to the creation and opening of parks inNunavik;QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possess a university degree in the natural sciences (Biology, Geology, Geography, etc.); relevant
experience will also be considered;
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of Inuit archaeology, history and culture;
  • Possess good research, analysis, summary and writing skills;
  • Possess solid teamwork experience;
  • Written and oral working knowledge of at least two (2) of the following languages: Inuktitut,
English and French
  • Possess a working knowledge of widely used computer software within a Macintosh environment
(word processors, spreadsheets, databases, etc.);
  • Be available to travel frequently in Nunavik
