Job Description

Under the authority of the director of Planning and Programming and the supervision of the advisor for adult and community programs, the worker will be supporting the Nunavik communities in planning and conducting On-the-Land activities with the objective of contributing to the well-being of community members, of all generations and in link with regional suicide-prevention initiatives.The worker will collaborate with other community workers (elders, local community wellness workers, interveners, the schools, recreation professionals, etc.) in order to help addressing issues at the community level. Activities should contribute to the development of protective factors in the area of mental wellness, suicide prevention and intervention.The worker will help achieve these goals by developing on-the-land activities that would:

  • Facilitate intergenerational communications (elders, adults, youth, men & women);
  • Improve healthy relationship between families and community;
  • Contribute to development of parenting skills;
  • Recognize Inuit tradition knowledge as foundation of Inuit family value;
  • Improve cultural identity, self esteem;
  • Share traditional knowledge.
Qualifications
  • Excellent command of Inuktitut and English or French, both oral and written;
  • Experience in community work;
  • Experience in organizing activities in the tundra for various clienteles;
  • Experience in accompanying in grief and healing situations;
  • Experience in supporting and organizing therapeutic activities;
  • Good knowledge of the MS Office environment.
Candidates who are beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement shall receive priority.Conditions and benefits
  • Temporary, full-time position (35 hours/week) of one year with possibility of extension
  • Position based in Kuujjuaq
  • Salary according to the norms in effect in the health and social services network (25.25$/h to 45.22$/h)
