Position Title: Director, Data Analytics Best Practices Reports To: AVP, Data and Analytics Department: Enterprise Data and Analytics Term: Permanent Full-Time Work Arrangements: We are currently working remotely, and we will be moving to a hybrid model when our office renovation is complete (approximately November 2023), coming into the office a minimum of 2 days per week, every other week on designated days. The Opportunity: Equitable Life is growing! We are looking for a Director, Data Analytics Best Practices to join our Enterprise Data and Analytics team! This role is responsible for establishing best practices, via a center of excellence, for data analytics for all three of Equitable’s business units; Individual Insurance, Savingsamp; Retirement, and group Benefits. This includes defining and supporting the data analytics and reporting needs to business partners to drive business decisions and insights, support generating use case backlogs, specific analytics requests, training new BI analysts and data analytics specialists and supporting the development of business unit data analytics strategies. Additionally, creating reporting standards, education and building reporting solutions, and setting the foundation for creating a data-driven culture which seeks data-driven insights. The individual will lead and grow the team as needed and perform the appropriate team mentorship for direct reports. This role provides technical, task and functional direction to the Data Best Practices and to the reporting functions in the Business Units. This will include: Aid in prioritization and estimation of project tasks, technical mentoring, growth and development, and escalation to management incidents. Supporting the AVP, Data and Analytics they will also contribute to technical performance assessments of team members and actively participate in interviewing and onboarding. This individual will be working directly with senior management, develop strategic partnerships with business unit leadership teams, and will manage a team of experienced direct reports. Success in this role will require a habitual commitment to continually improving, knowledge of cross industry developments and best practices in data analytics, ability to develop and maintain a backlog of use cases and establishing strong working partnerships across business units.Making a client or peer’s day, owning the problem, and a willingness to roll up one’s sleeves is essential.A strong focus on the client and team is key; the ability to take their work seriously but themselves a little less so as well as constantly striving to build bridges. What you will be doing:· Works closely with the business and technical teams to identify the definition and analysis of how information assets drive business outcomes · Applies knowledge and hands-on experience of data structures, data modeling, and data warehousing strategies to contribute to the development and maintenance of business intelligence and reporting tools · Documents understanding of how data is turned into knowledge to support business decisions and possess a understanding of the business environment · Engage and facilitate regular discussions with business units and the IT data teams · Review solutions created by the Data Best Practices team and Business Unit Reporting teams · Support enterprise solutions across various business teams · Work comfortably in a fast-paced and highly cross-functional organization · Active participation/Lead in the building and implementation of BI solutions · Acts on behalf of the team as a subject matter expert for business and technical projects · Elicits and documents business requirements related to Data sources, reports and processes · Analyzes data security requirements and works with the project team to implement data security policies · Recommends and establishes best practices for data management, report design and creation, and team development to help create a more data driven culture · Lead the Data Best Practices team through delegation and prioritization of the work in accordance with the role and scope of work to be completed · Lead the Data Best Practices committee functions and communicate impacts to key stakeholders · Leads workstreams to support the implementation and improvement of new and existing processes and procedures, to continuously raise the bar and drive innovation across department activities · Act as a liaison between key stakeholders in data domains and the Data Best Practices supporting the implementation of data and reporting activities · Team mentoring on project and operational processes · Provide continuous improvement and innovation of Business Intelligence systems and services to enable business effectiveness and support overall company growth and success What you will bring:· 10+ years of experience with BI and reporting software programs such as Microsoft Power BI, SSRS, Birst, Tableau or Cognos · 10+ years of experience with SQL querying large data sets from multiple sources and developing automated reporting · 10+ years of experience with building and/or administrating data warehouse and familiarity with ETL and scripting using tools such as SQL · 5+ years of experience in managing teams · 5+ years experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement · 3+ years experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment · 3+ years experience working with and presenting to senior management · Experience in insurance or the financial services industry a major asset · Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Applied Math or related fields · Advanced knowledge and experience with displaying complex quantitative data in a simple, intuitive format and to present findings in a clear and concise manner · Experience with data modelling and building data warehouses; ability to create conceptual, logical and physical data models and diagrams for relational database systems · Experience with displaying complex data in a simple, intuitive format What’s in it for you: · A healthy work-life balance with employee wellness top of mind · Annual bonus program, annual vacation allowance, and company-paid benefits program · An additional paid volunteer day each year so you can spend time giving back to the community · Immediate enrollment in the company’s pension program with employer matching · Employee resource groups that support an inclusive work environment · Tuition support and specialized program assistance · A company subsidized cafeteria with a variety of daily options · Discounts on company products and services, and access to exclusive employee perks · Regular EQ Together events focused on company togetherness and collaboration As part of the recruitment/offer process you will be required to: · Provide two professional references (minimum one supervisor and above) · Undergo a criminal background check To learn more about Equitable Life, we encourage you to explore our organization.At Equitable Life, we are committed to providing equal access to employment opportunities across our organization.
