Job Description

Electrical SupervisorCavendish Farms is a leading producer of frozen food products for retail and foodservice markets throughout Canada, the United States, and around the world. We have state-of-the-art potato processing plants in Prince Edward Island, Lethbridge, Alberta, and Jamestown, North Dakota, and an appetizer plant in Wheatley, Ontario. Our Head office is in Dieppe, New Brunswick and has sales office locations in Toronto, Montreal, and Boston.Position SummaryThe Electrical Supervisor is responsible for the daily and long-term maintenance operation of the plant, parts inventory, and maintenance workers while maintaining and upholding all food safety and OHS guidelines.Relationships and ContactsThe Electrical Supervisor reports directly to the Maintenance Manager.Major Responsibilities

  • Supervise the maintenance electrician employees.
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Planner in order to plan and schedule electrician #39;s daily and long-term workload.
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Planner the plans and schedules for major shutdown work.
  • Complete equipment PM #39;s in advance to ensure correct work orders and parts are on hand for major shutdowns.
  • Manage Part Rebuild, PM and Inventory programs.
  • Coordinate mechanics work with the packaging department, sorting equipment, electronic equipment, PLC and Panelview to ensure continuous operations.
  • Develop, issue, and supervise PM work orders to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Ensure department works within the maintenance budget.
  • Responsible for the actions, output and healthamp; safety of maintenance department employees and related contractors.
  • Ensure that all equipment and the building are properly maintained to ensure trouble-free and on-time manufacturing.
  • Develop and maintain capable and effective employees in the maintenance functions, ensuring training and proper certification for existing and new equipment, up-to-date maintenance techniques or regulatory compliance.
  • Complete annual reviews with each hourly employee.
  • Coverage for the Maintenance Supervisor during sickness, vacation etc.
  • Maintain the highest level of energy, urgency and responsiveness in regard to daily plant operations, breakdowns or incidents and instill this mind set in the hourly employees.
  • Research and assist in AFE/Capital projects information and data.
  • Continuously improve maintenance resources (staff, equipment, inventory), process, and efficiencies against standard.
  • Participate in committees as the maintenance representative to ensure environmental compliance as well as HACCP and CFIA compliance.
  • Perform applicable food safety duties in the absence of personnel within the Maintenance department.
  • Update plant software programs as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Health and Safety Responsibilities
  • Using or wearing the protective equipment designated by the accident prevention policy.
  • Follow safe work procedures.
  • Reporting any unsafe conditions or acts immediately.
  • Reporting all accidents or injuries immediately.
Food Safety Responsibilities
  • Commitment to Quality System Policy
  • Enforce quality and food safety programs within the role.
  • Communication of food safety issues to related department and action within the role.
  • Active participation in food safety, food security, health, sanitation, hygiene, and quality program within the role
Qualifications and Abilities:
  • Experience with French fry processing and a clear understanding of the steps involved in the production of French fries.
  • Journeyman Electrician, or Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Excellent penmanship Technical Background for identification of obsolete items, OEM part sourcing and maintenance background
  • AutoCAD
  • PLC programming design and troubleshooting
  • VFD programming and troubleshooting
  • The ability to be an asset to the Shift Manager on duty.
  • Experience working with or cleaning the equipment in wet areas of factory.
  • Work in a safe and efficient manner
  • Follow personal hygiene rules.
  • Reliable and consistent attendance
  • An above average knowledge of the steps involved in processing French fries.
  • A desire to take initiative and help.
  • Basic understanding of product sorting and defect removal, peeling process, cutting systems and product specifications
  • Ability to keep records accurately.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent organization
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Ability to work under constant disruptions.
  • Experience directing fast paced maintenance activities in a food manufacturing plant.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • A strong communicator, both written and oral, who is confident, decisive, able to deal with conflict and yet achieve win-win results.
  • Strong computer skills, proficient in usage of Excel, Word and AS400.
  • Seeks out and applies best practices as solutions to correct deficiencies,
  • Continues to examine opportunities for personal growth and industry knowledge,
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to stand/walk for 8 hours.
  • Ability to squat, bend, kneel, reach, twist, use ladders, climb stairs.
  • Occasional lifting up to 50lb/ 34kg
  • Occasional carrying up to 50lb/34kg
