Driven by strong values and our vision of inclusion, we are dedicated to creating an organization and work environment that promotes individual growth and career satisfaction.We are currently recruiting for:Residential Counsellors (Support Workers) –Casual/ReliefLocation: Liverpool and Milton, NSReporting to a House Supervisor, you will be responsible for supporting adults with intellectual disabilities in their day-to-day lives. Areas of support may include community access, recreation and leisure, household management, life skills, personal care, and medication administration. QASL is a dynamic and rewarding work environment where creativity and an individualized approach are encouraged to meet the needs and goals of each person you support.As the ideal candidate, you are highly energetic, innovative, open-minded and enthusiastic. You are committed to inclusive community living, have a sound knowledge of the principles of person-directed planning, and are highly motivated with strong organizational and communication skills. You are excited to contribute to a quality team and find creative solutions to ever-changing challenges.QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12. Post-secondary education preferred but not required.
  • Provincial Core Competencies:
*Fire and Life Safety *Individual Program Planning*Standard First Aid/CPR* Positive Principles and Practices of Non-Aversive Behavior Change* Crisis Invention* Medication Awareness* Basic Principles and Practices of Personal Care(*QASL will provide training for individuals who do not possess these competencies at the time of hiring.)
  • Previous work or volunteer experience supporting adults with intellectual disabilities is an asset.
  • Commitment to social inclusion and inclusive community living.
  • Effective professional communication skills and an ability to liaise with key partners including families, professionals, and other agencies.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organization and record keeping skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Values and skills compatible with the type and level of support required.
  • OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Successful applicants must be available to regularly work a variety of shifts including evening, overnight awake/asleep, and weekend shifts.
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a recent vulnerable sector check and must have a valid driver’s license.
