Job Description

Position PostingEquipment Operator – Parks (1 Position Available) Term of Employment:Full-Time, ContinuingRate of Pay:Band 4: $30.24 - $33.04 per hour (Subject to CUPE 1015 Agreement)Location:Operations CentreDuties:The Equipment Operator position is responsible for a variety of park maintenance duties. Equipment Operators keep up the appearance, health, and safety of landscapes and features in public parks. They maintain jogging and biking paths, hiking trails, athletic fields, playgrounds, picnic tables, benches, lawns, flower beds, gardens, and cemetery.Equipment Operators beautify the park grounds by keeping lawns green and litter-free and by planting and tending to annual flowers that change with the seasons as well as perennial trees, shrubs, and flowering plants. To keep the park safe, they maintain and make any repairs to park fixtures as needed. They do everything they can to ensure the park is attractive and usable by community members.Duties

  • Safely and competently operate and perform maintenance checks and inspections on all assigned equipment, including but not limited to, skid-steers, zero turn, front deck, wide area mowers, largeamp; small tractors, bucket trucks, tandems, trucks, and side by sides.
  • Operation of various turf and landscaping equipment.
  • Maintain landscape throughout parks and greenspace including seeding, mowing, fertilizing, aeration, irrigate.
  • Ensure athletic fields/turf surfaces are ready for games and practices.
  • Maintain and repair irrigation systems through out park amenities and city facilities.
  • Rehabilitation of damaged turf areas
  • Perform and assist in annual aerial tree pruning activities across the City maintaining park and boulevard trees.
  • Perform and assist in care for trees, shrubs, and flowers in the process of replacement, removal, watering, and maintenance.
  • Perform and assist in cemetery operations which include but not limited to the interments, disinterment’s, grounds, and facility maintenance.
  • Install, inspect, and repair playground equipment, picnic tables, benches, and other park assets.
  • Keep trails and paths clear of any debris and in good condition.
  • Pick up litter and remove bagged trash in park amenities and facilities.
  • Remove snow and ice and maintain safe walking surfaces during cold months.
  • Set up, maintain, and take down of outdoor rinks and pond ice surfaces.
  • Snow removal and ice maintenance of all outdoor rinks
  • String light installation with the aid of a bucket truck through out park amenities and city facilities.
  • May be required to oversee and assist in the training of summer seasonal parks staff.
  • Keep accurate documentation such as, time sheets, equipment inspection sheets, hazard identification forms, and daily work records.
  • General cleaning of worksite, equipment, and park amenities
  • Perform heavy lifting and manual labour.
  • Operate equipment for the daily operations of the Parks Division
Other
  • Other related duties as required.
  • Assume roll of team lead when required.
  • Adhere to the City of Lloydminster’s polices and directives.
  • This position will be required to operate a municipal vehicle for business purposes.
  • Successful candidate will be required to complete training on operating heavy equipment and assist the senior equipment operator.
Schedule: Standard hours are Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with on-call and weekend shifts.Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalency is required.
  • Must possess and maintain, as a minimum, a Class 3 drivers license registered in Alberta or Saskatchewan with air endorsement and an acceptable driver’s abstract is required. This position is required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business purposes.
  • Must have experience in turf and landscaping equipment operation; with proven ability to competently operate various types of equipment including but not limited to skid steers, tractors, grounds keeping mowers, tandems, bucket trucks, side by sides etc.
  • Possession of relevant tickets or certifications in a landscape related field would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum 2 years experience operating a chainsaw.
  • Minimum 1 years in using a woodchipper.
  • Must be willing to work at heights and able to obtain a Fall protection course or equivalent.
  • The ability to work on a natural ice surface. (Bud Miller Lake)
  • Proficiency in keeping accurate documentation such as, time sheets, equipment inspection sheets, hazard identification forms, and daily work records, via Smart devices/computers/cell phones.
  • Understand written and verbal forms of communication as well as the ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Must be in good physical condition, able to accommodate long periods of standing and lifting up to 25 kg (55 lbs).
  • The successful candidate will be responsible, reliable, with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Candidate will be required to complete training on the maintenance and operation of the equipment used by Senior Equipment Operators
