Relief, Addiction and Mental Health Worker - Crisis ServicesDirect Service – (OPSEU)Ongoing, ReliefLondon, Ontario (London Zone)- Application Deadline: March 11, 2024 -We #39;re expanding our pool of Relief Addiction and Mental Health Workers/Counsellors in the Crisis Services Department, specifically in the following programs: Crisis Stabilization Space, Crisis Centre First Contact, Crisis Response Team-London, Reach Out and Crisis Assessment Team. This role has potential to work shifts in multiple programs across the Crisis Services Department; however, eligibility for shifts in specific programs will be at the discretion of the Manager and based on program needs and suitability. We are currently seeking candidates with open availability for all shifts, including weekdays and weekends; including day, afternoon, evening, and overnight shifts. Shift length in these programs varies, up to and including 12-hour shifts. Relief staff have flexibility to accept shifts that suit their schedules but will commit to accepting a minimum of three shifts per month. While the minimum shift requirement is currently three shifts per month, Relief staff have the ability to pick up shifts at their discretion up to a maximum of 44 hours per week, and will also be eligible for optional enrollment into the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP).Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. WHAT WE #39;RE OFFERING:

• What you #39;ll be making - Starting rate for this role is $26.48 per hour (Level 1 – Direct Service), with a wage differential, based on regulation ($29.28 per hour for Level 1 – Direct Service, Regulated):
  • Successful candidates who are registered with one of the designated professional colleges (e.g. OCSWSSW, CNO, COTO, CRPO, CPSO, or CPO) will receive the wage differential for regulation
  • Successful external applicants will start at Level 1, with grid progression based on seniority up to Level 8 ($33.56 per hour for non-regulated, and $36.35 per hour for regulated)
  • For internal applicants, grid level placement will occur as per the Collective Agreement

HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:

• Establish a therapeutic relationship to maximize the benefits of engagement between the staff person and the client
• Engage Emergency Services when it is determined that additional intervention is required
• Assess the adequacy of resources/supports currently available to the client
• Assess barriers to successful community living (e.g. treatment options, transportation, finances, etc.)
• Advocate as necessary in order to facilitate access to services and supports with the objective of remediating immediate crisis situation
• Provide short-term follow-up support to bridge the gap from referral to engagement with a longer-term support service
• Have knowledge about community resources relevant to clients, including other mental health services, entitlement and benefit programs, (e.g. ODSP, Ontario Works, London Housing, etc.)
• Assist the client to obtain needed resources by educating and supporting the client to access resources, linking the client to appropriate services, advocating with or for the client when needed
• Provide telephone assistance to clients seeking support, face-to-face appointments and/or information about mental health servicesamp; supports
• Attend and actively participate in staff and group meetings
• Contribute to a positive team environment and a welcoming and supportive environment for clients accessing services

Reach Out responsibilities:

• Provide crisis intervention services and supports on the Reach Out Crisis line via phone, text and web chat
• Respond to voicemails from the Reach Out Crisis line.
• Establish a therapeutic relationship with callers to the Reach Out line, and work with these clients to address their immediate concerns

WHAT YOU #39;LL NEED TO APPLY:Police Vulnerable Sector Check RequirementsSuccessful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. • Degree or diploma in a health or social science discipline. (Primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process (i.e. original degree/diploma/certificate or official transcript). For ongoing education, an unofficial transcript will be accepted)
• Strong knowledge of appropriate mental health, addiction, problem gaming / gambling and other community resources for system navigation and referral
• Ability to assess client level of risk
• Demonstrated experience with risk assessments and crisis support
• Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Mental Health Act and PHIPA
• Strong computer skills; ability to utilize basic Word and Excel documents
• Valid Driver’s Licence
• Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly

We prefer the following qualifications:

• Registration with a professional college (i.e. OCSWSSW, CNO, CRPO, CPSO, COTO, CPO)
• Certification in ASIST and First Aid/CPR
