Employment OpportunityDate: October 6, 2022 Bulletin No. 22-23 074Position & Assignment:

  • 0.5 term - Instructional Coach – until June 30, 2023
School: Dawson Trail School Closing date: Thursday, October 13, 2022Start Date: Earliest PossibleAs an Instructional Coach you will be a support to the schoolteachers and learners. He or she will work collaborativelyunder the direction of the school principal with the school teams. The primary responsibility of this person will be to workwith classroom teachers to enhance literacy instruction (orally and written) across the curriculum.Instructional Coaches will support individual teachers in their classrooms to:
  • Focus instruction on before, during and after phases of learning.
  • Provide modelling, teaching, guided practice, and ongoing feedback.
  • Explicitly teach literacy and reading apprenticeship strategies.
  • Encourage risk-taking and view errors as part of the learning process.
  • Encourage teachers to set goals for their own learning.
  • Support learning in classrooms.
  • Co-plan and co-teach with classroom teachers
Instructional Coaches will support school literacy teams by:
  • Teaching reading and writing strategies while teaching subject content.
  • Assisting teachers to learn how to access student information such as- their prior knowledge, culture
and individual differences.
  • Using consistent, proven intervention strategies, language/terms and assisting teachers to reinforce
literacy and numeracy skills
  • Acknowledging the successes of students and teachers.
  • Will work with teams to support the literacy success of our aboriginal students
  • Ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team
  • Analyze data, develop next steps and ensure school teams use SMART goals and are visible to the school teams.
  • Ability to support the development of reading and writing data walls in the early years environment.
The successful applicant will possess the following qualifications:
  • Valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate
  • Post- Baccalaureate or Master’s Degree in Education is an asset
  • Previous school-based experience in early years is preferable.
